Suicide. Early this morning the news reached us that Mrs. Troxel, wife ot John Troxe), m ho resides at Fairview Church, about three miles south of this place, had committed suicide by shootinc herself. The tit'.-ts, as near as we have been aMe to obtain them, arc substantially ni follows: Mrs. Troiel had been very ill for some months past, and during her sickness she at times liecome uioruidiy melancholy. This morning Mr. Troxel arose at live o'clock, leaving his wife in bed ; it not be ing her custom to rise so early. Having to deliver a num)er of cattle at Tarr's sta tion, Mr. Troxel proceeded to discharge his engagement at an early hour, and had reached the hed of Main street in this place beloro the messenger bearing the sid news of the death of his mile, reached him. Alter Mr. Troxel left home, a serv ant girl went about attending, to her usual work, until about seven o'clock, mhen she inquired ot one of the children if Mrs. Troxel had arisen. The child stated that she had n-t. The servant girl imtnet'i Ue ly proceeded to Mrs. Troxel's room, where she found her lying ou her left side with hi.-r head resting upon her arm while in her right hand she tightly grasped a navy revolver. When discovered she was apparently dead, there being no signs ot lite. I pon examination it mas discov ered that she had fired two shots, one tak ing effect in the right temple, the ball en tering the brain, producing a'most instant death. She had arisen during the morn ing and dressed herself, and lying down on the bed cgaia lo rest, thi was doubtless seized mith a St of hypochondria, and in this slate of mind cyiuriiilted the awful deed which retiioved her from all earthly arJictiocs and launcLed her tout law aa untried eternity, Tu deciised ws daughter of Win. CcNtr.'UACY and Rate. On last Sat urday, the tith instant, a ciil by the name ot Annie Cokenour, claiming to reside at Southampton Mil's, Somerset otiuty, I'd., appeared before Justice John Holmes, of the bast wartl. and mite information against Gecrge Bierer and Ewing Bell for assault with intent to have uui&wtu! cir nal knom ledge ot her. Warrants mere is sued, and Bierer was arrested and gave bail lor a hearing on Wednesday afternoon last. At the time ot the irUi, Bell had not yet been arrested, he having heard ot the information being made, "skipped off," and Olticer Collies was still lot-king for him. The trial went on with one de fendant, Bierer. and the evidence adduced could only warrant the Justice in holding him in three hundred dollars bail for ap pearance at next Court A arter Ses sions lor conspiracy. A brief history of the case is about as follows : II appears that the girl came to this place n the evening train, B. & O. road, on the 8lh of last month, and enquired ot some rude boys the m ay to Monroe. The boys atter wards reported that she was a lewd char acter, and some of Ihem followed her. At the bridge at the west end ot Monroe, on the pike, she met Bierer, " one of the defendants, and Hopwood Hair, and asked litem where Mr. Bute Devan liv-ii. Bell, another dc-lendant, soon put ia aa appear ance, and it appears was chitny inlni tuciitttl in decoying the appr.rent inoffens ive girl and strauger in an entirely tiiiler ent direction from where she wanted 1o go. When thev arrived at the camp meeting grounds on the north side of Monr . she began to suspicion that they were misleading her, and refused lo go any farther, nt which time and place, sue as serts. Bell made the assault charged, tut says Bierer mas not near them at th lime. As the case m ill undergo an investigation by the next grand jury, we retrain from any further comments, save and except, that the boys who gave out that the girl was of a fwd character ought to le spotted by our tfticers. and brought to punish ment It has got to be toi common an occurrence lo make remarks about strange females who arrive almost daily unpro tected by a male enmpbnion, and it is hich time some effort should be made to stop it. Lack of space torbide further comment on this important natter, but we may have : occasion to speak of it again, and if so, I will give seme names an airing. (.'. 'sir Xt-jnJart'.. . !
