Star. assassination. We learn from the Waynesburg llfptbltfan, thai on Saturday evening last, during religious errices at Ayer school house, Springhill township, Ira Jobes, a desperado of Aleppo tow n ship, came into the meeting drunk, and behaved so boisterously that it became ne cessary to eject him. When out ot the house he commenced fighting with Wil liam Phillips.a good cilizen'and member ot the church; but the fighting was immedi ately suppressed by the bystanders. Thos. Evans, a man of most excellent repute, was standing near and mr.de some remark, which Jobes took occasion to say was a d n lie. Mr. Evans knocked him down for his impudence and insult. All was quiet now and lite exercises went on as belore. In the mean time Jobes found a stone and, hunting up Mr. Evan's horse, waited in a hiding place for his victim. When Evans went to his horse, Jobes struck him with the stone and fractured his skull, and brutally kicked hi lifeless form until a friend came to see what de tained him, and ran the assassin off. Mr. Evans was alive but delirious at the time of the writing. Surely the desperado Jobes should have tbe lull benefit of the punishment which the law inflicts upon such desperate characters. .Moot court. for tue past eigut or nine months this place has had a Literary Society. The Pittsburgh i'ommtrriul of Tuesday last says : Liarcy L. Uoullon, ol I anajs, llirougu his counsel, George Shiras, Jr., tiled a bill in eqnitv against the Salisbury R-iilroad Comoany, eL al.. setting forth that he is the holder ot six shares ot tlie capital stix k of the road: that on June 14, 1975, D. Vutzy, the President, and Noah Scott, Secretary, of the Board of Directors, n accordance with a resolution of the Board, executed a niortenge, or trust deed of the road and its franchises to Michael A. Sawyer, as trustee, to secure a series of bonds acgTeirating $150,(Xiu, purporting to be bonds ot the road; that this transfer being in accordance with a mere resolu tion ol the Board, and without other au thority, is void: that the said attempt to create an alleged indebtedness is a viola tion ot the Constitution of the State; that the mortgage is therefore void in law; that John Aspach, one of the defendants, claims to own this railway's bonds to the amount of 40,0o0; that the said Anspach is not believed to have given valuable con sideration for tbem; that he has demanded the interest on the bonds; that the Treas urer, John B. Jackson, is expected to pay the interest; and the complainant prays that the trustees be restrained from meet ing the demand. A motion for an injunc tion will be made on Saturday. Ihe Salisbury railroad extends from Meyersdale lo Salisbury, Pa., a distance ot eight and a-half miles, and is not yet completed. Ihe following is Irom tbe 1 ittsburgb J'utt ol Wednesday: in the case ot farsey r. Boulton, painst the Salisbury Railroad Company, mention of which has been made, an ar gument took place on Saturday on the mo tion lor a pecuniary injunction by Geo. Shiras and Daniel Kane, Esqs., for the motion, and A IL Coffroth against The preliminary injunction was refused by the court The respondents in the bill of complaint also filed their answer, which shows tbe legality ot the mortgage and bonds iwhicu iae piaintitl claimed were illegal;. The answer showed that the mortgage and bonds were executed and is sued by Col. K D. lutzyand Noah Scott former President and Secretary of the company. On motion of A. II. Coffroth, Esq., solicitor for the respondents, a rule on Darsey E. Boulton was asked to give security lor costs, which was granted by the court WnirriNG tue Wroso Boy. While whipping a boy at school, the master found him laughing heartily .and the hard er he whipped the louder the boy laughed. Stopping, be angrily asked, "What are you laughing at?" "Sir," said the youth, who could hardly suppress his laughter, "You are whipping the wrong boy." So physicians, when depending upon a lim ited experience in determining the nature cf some delicate and complicated affection, often treat tbe wrong disease. Many times women call upon their family physicians, one with dyspepsia, another with palpita tion, another with trouble of the breast, another with pain here and there, and in this way tbey all present alike to them selves and their easy going and indifferent doctor, separate and distinct diseases, for which be prescribes his pills and potions, assuming them to be such, wbeu in reali ty, tbey are all symptoms caused by some uterine disorder. While tbe physician is ignorant of the cause of suffering, he en courages his practice until large bills are made, wben the suffering patient is no better, but probably worse tor the delay, treatment and various complications made. A proper medicine directed to the cause would perhaps have entirely remov ed the disease, thereby instituting comfort ipsted of prolonged misery. Mrs. Henry Patterson, of XeT York City, writing to Dr. R. V. Pierce, ot Buffalo, New Y'ork, says: "I had been under an eminent physician's care for eight months for what be called "spinal disease." I became worse during all this time, when, chancing to see a copy of your Medical Adviser at the residence of a friend, I read that part devoted to "Wo man and her Disease.' I soon became convinced that my disease was a uterine affection, which, as you say, caused vmpt thftie backache, inward fever, nervous ness, and general debility. I commenced the use of your Favorite Prescription and Gclden Medical Discovery, applying also tbe local treatment winch you recommend ed ia the Ad cue r, and in three month i I was well and strong. Ursixa Items. W. S. Kuhlman, new ly elected Justice cf the Peace, left for Philadelphia ednesday night on the B. t O. Express lor the purpose of entering Jefferson Medical College, where he in tends to take a thorough course oi three years. He will stop with Dr. W. S. Our public schools closed last Friday. We owe our best wishes to Prof. Cook ad Miss Hanna tor the good work they haVc accomplished 'for our children during the winter. Do such men deserve to - i be punisbei for their deeds T There is no trouble to answer tms question, tsui now. see here. Let ns all use judgment and reason. Here is a man who wishes to sell whisky, by which he thinks to make a living; but be must Have license 1 I . 1, i-a hu id 1 " f i ,r o.l t n it.i d. i Vni h. .gets up a petition, and gets a dozen men to sign it, and on tlie strength ot this pe tition, with these names on it, and a cer tain amount of money, the court grants license to sell intoxicating liqnors. . Now that man commence, not to set fire to a neighbor's property by malice, oh no, ot course not; but in nine chance ont of ten, bis selling liquor rob women aud chil dren of bread and clothing, and those who drink I) excess it robs of character, d ency, and, in short, of every thing it bikes lo constitute a christian and a use ful man. And yet, here is not the end of tbe mat ter. I ask: Is it not a tact that cannot be denied that a mia w ho makes a good liv ing by selling strong drink, does more harm than the man w ho set lire to Mr. Uohn's barn, whoever it was. In Mr. Gohn's barn, it appears, horses and' cattle were burned to death. An in human deed, surely. But it is a small matter for twelve men to sign a petition, and the judge of the court to grant li cense to a man to bring men to poverty and shame here, and to eternal ruin here after, just as they lake more or less of the poison Le sella Ihcni because he has li cense to do so. Some say, "people will drink whisky anyhow, and if they don't get it here, they will get K someplace elss." Well, if men will drink whisky, and will be ruined by it tor time and eternity, I hope to God that shall not be instru mental in bis ruin, by either distilling the poisonous diue, signing a petition for li cense, or granting license to sell, or In selling it, which all are acts in which a man can be instrumental in makinz drunkards, and consequently very likely I to share in the drunkards' ruin. I hope. if I am called upon to do anything to bring intoxicating liquors before my fellow men, those solemn words will be impressed up on my mind: "Prepare to meet thy God." Amos 412. . W. Wellersbcru, March 16, 1978. Ax Astonishing Fact. A large pro portion of the American people are to day dying from the effects of DyspepsU or dis ordered liver. The result ol these dis eases upon the masses of intelligent and valuable people is most alarming, making lile actually a burden instead ot a pleasant existence of eojovmcnt and usefulness as it ought to be. 1 here is no good reason for this, if you will only throw aside pre judice and skepticism, take the advice of Druggists and your friends, and try one bottle of Green's August Flower. Your speedy relief is certain. Millions of bot tles of this medicine have been given away to try its virtues, with satis lac lory results ia every case. You can buy a aimp.e bottle tor 10 cents to try. Three doses will relieve the worst case. Posi tively sold by all Druggists on the West ern Continent. That terrible scource, fever and ague and its congener, bilious remittent be sides al feet ions ot the stomach, liver and bowels, produced by miasmatic air and water, are both eradicated and prevented by the use of Uostetter s Stomach Bitters, a purely vegetable elixir, endorsed by physicians, and more extensively used as a remedy lor the above class ot disorders, as well as for many others, than any medi cine of the age. A languid circulation, a torpid state of tbe liver, a want of vital stamna, are conditions peculiarly liivora bie to malarial diseases. They are, how ever, surely remedied by the 1 reventa tive, which, by invigorating the system and endowing it with regularity, as well as vigor, provides it with a resistant pow er which enables it to withstand disorders not only ot a malarial type, but a host of others to which feeble and ul regulated system: are subject 1 he Bitters are a sale as well as searching eradicant and have widely superseded that dangerous drug which palliates but does not eradicate ma laria.
