Wide Awake for February is a ver noticeable number of this rapidiy-growing magazine for the children and young folks. The engravings are unusually fine. The magazine opens with an excellent picture by Miss C. A. Northam, illustrating a charming Valentine story bv Mrs Mary E. Bradley, "How They Made it Pp." Of the two serials, "The Cooking Club," by Ella Farman, the editor, is lull of deep er wisdom than commonly goes to the making of a juvenile story, while "Young Kick," by Miss Eastman, is delightful. In depicting actual liitle child-life, Miss Eastman has few equals. Fanny Uoper Feudge, the accomplished traveler, furnishes an entertaining paper, "Among the Parsces." But the two dis tinguished features of Wipe Awake this month are the long letter in the "Poets' Homes" series, relative to Mrs. A. 1. T. Whitney, and the initial paper ot the "Be having" series. The latter is prepared'by t.ie auinor oi - iue t giy uiri t'apers. The disease is or a malignant type and isspreaditg rapidly in every di rection. The disease was denominated French Measles by the physician, and con sequently created but little alarm at first. In the course of a lew days, other families became affected in the same way, the phy sician still persisting in calling it measles. After the whole neighborhood was ex posed to the contagion, the body of the first fatal case having been taken into the church which was crew led by friends and relatives ; it occurred to some persons that perhaps the physician was mistaken in his diagnosis. Accordingly another medical gentleman was summoned who at once pronounced it malignant small-pox. The aootninable custom ot taking the dead in to the church, which still prevails among the ignorant and superstitious, should be condemned by every right thinking per son. Thus tar all thc fatal cases were un protected by vaccination. Since the true disease is known, the schools have been closed and every precaution taken to cir cumscribe it. The School Board has fully decided on building a new school house, and for the purpose of raising the necessary tunds bonds will be issued. In the erection of the new house, the combort and conveni ence of the children should be the leading object. Occasional. Court tro2eedln-. Court conveneel on Monday morning at ten o'clock.
