We w ish to call the attention of our
readers to the card, in another column, of
Wra. Gnenthers Long Healer. Thia rem
edy must be a success, judging from tbe
array ot testimonials which are set forth
in their circulars, tw o of w hich will be
found in their card. Although this medi
cine has never, until now, lieen brought
before this community, yet it is by no
means a new or untried one. Tears ago
the same recipe was used in Milow, Ger

private practice, and with such success
that on his death be left tbe secret as a le

Wra. Guentber. (one of the present pro

not be used, except as charily, until after

Since that time Wax. Guentber has been
giving the world tbe benefit of his truly .
wonderful secret We would advise our
readers to examine the claims of this rem
edy, which, as far as we cae judge, are
well fimnded.
The atendance at the fair on the con J

which we should all feel quite proud. The

Diseases multiply. One begets another.
A trifling indisposition may, therefore,
originate a complication of dangerous mal

traca'ole to constipation ; fever and ague
unhinges the entire nervous system, and
is therefore the source ot the protean ail

inception ot those disorders of the stom
ach, bowels or liver, which give biith to
the majority of diseases and disabilities, or
taken when they have ripened into for
midable maturity, are alike powerful to
cure. The process of recovery i, ol

This village has lately suffered the in

limited faculties, and weakened intellects
see no difference between sarcasm and
downright lying ; mistake exaggerations

are generally hollow chested, weak kneed,

Some of them we know to be honest,

they are honest enough to acknowledge
their lack of learning and industrious

than '.he woald-be-wit who sneers in such
lame fashion at them.
Neither his intellectual display or per

Tbe people bo were raised within sight

But if our streams knew that they did

Dreadful, indeed would be the result, but

and will remain serenely unconscious of
his disapproval and even of his existence.
Like many other would-be fashionables,
the question of a heallhy locality, was
less important than that of "cheap board
ing." People can undoubtedly live here
cheaply if they so desire, yet it is attended
with some necessary expense except in
the tase of zoophiles, sponges, or para
sites that are presumed to dra.v n mri-h-uient
from hardy and vigorous p'aats that
have a foothold in the soil.

Excursion to jioc. r Va-nsox. The
lojal, through the courtesy of - Messrs.
S.iniu and Harper, E. K. iiyndman and
others was enabled to form one of an excur
sion iaiiy thai Voited Washington and
Ml. Veruon last week. We lei; Mineral
Point at ten minutes alter eleven on
Wednesday morning, on a special train,
well filled with excursionists, some two
hundred in number. After passing through
3and Patch tunnel the rate ol ppeed at
which we started down the mountain forced
oo us the conclusion that the pros(H.-cts ut
binding in eternity were heller lhau those
of landing at Washington, but our tears
were changed lo rejoicings when we
learned thai the efficient buperintendeut
of tbe road Mr. E. hi. Hyndman was on
the engine, and giving his personal super
vision iu the running otlLe train. The
Connelsviile road is in excellent condition
and doing an immense business, and the
still with which it is managed makes it
one of the most pleasant and safe roads
to travel on in the country. At tbe Queen
City Hotel, in Cumberland, an excellent
dinner was served to the excursionists,
after which an eloquent address wan made
by Col. Sly of Cumberland welcoming the
excursionists lo thai city. Col. Sly's re
marks were short and to the point and de
livered in the Colonel's usual happy man
ner. Prof. McCord of Pittsburgh replied
on the behall ot the excursionists.
At Harpers Ferry the excursionists
were given a short lime lo gaze at Ihe
luugmncxnt scenery. At this point the
Potomac cuts iu way through the moun
tains ihe rocky sides ot vnich tower a
thousand feet above iu rippling waters.
The grandure of the scene is so much
superior lo our powers of description that
we shall not attempt to describe it. A
view ol tbe ruins ot the ohl arsenal and
other relics of John Brown's raid puli.li in
a pairiouc humor, and "his soul went
marchiug on" was piped from an hun
dred different throats. Reaching Wash
ington at eight o'clock we took np our
quartets at the Arlington, a hotel, by the
way that we can recommend to our readers,
ll was a little late tor sight seeing but
many of the party strolled tbrougn the
Wei e House and Capitol grounds. Frank
lins adage "early to bed and early to rise"
was strictly adhered to and at seven o'clock
Friday morning, we found ourselves
aboard the steamer "Arrow," bound for
ML Vernon. As there was a heavy tog on
the river blotting nut the beautiful scenery
along me m TJ, tal. lioi.mgiucau mo

Here we were shown the Washington

Driving along one of the spacious ave-
nues ot Washington we came suddenly
upon a bronze statue of General Scott, and
tbe party were treated to rare scene ot
affection. Wilson l cf Pittsburgh, a
relaUve of the deceased General. Spraog
from tne carriage, entered the enclosure,
clasped hi; ana around the neck of the
Statue and wept. ept tears of regl e:
that he had not been with the old rentle-
man at Lnndej's Lane, wept that he hal
not been old enough to accept a fat position
under lih relative at the beginning ot the
late war. As ihe tears trickled down his
cheek and fell on the General's, the Pil
grims unable to witness unmoved such a
display of grief, bowed their beads aud
and wept in uuisou.
The Pil jiims arrived at Ml Vernon at
ten o'clock aud immediately proceeded Jp
the hill to visit the home aud grove of
WasLiagiou. Col. Hollingsworlh, may he
live to eat the hen thai scratches the
gravel lrom oil his grave, took the party
in c.n.re at,d showed them the home, tL
old va lit, loiuo, garden and other relics.
Col. Hoiliuswonh, keeps everything as
nearly us puosabie in the condition iu
tthicii it was left by Washington. Here.
American passion for relics was well dis
played ; parties were to be seen in every
pa: tott lie house, from garret to cellar,
burning reiioc Somu ot them carried off
pieces of stone weighing two or three
Kunds froiu me steps in lrontot the bouse,
rusty nails were brokeu out, pieces ot
board chipped off and in fact anything the
vandals cx.u Id get there bands on were
carried away. One young man, hatchet m

tree. He hau a truthf ul expression of couu-U-l.
ices but a n.su wlume color would
lii v put to shame a Bedford County girl's
store cire.-ss. VV e hojie he was successful in
his scaruU. Mt. Vcruon is a large, airy
old farm house. The rooms on iLe hrsl
floor ale spacious, with bicli ceilings and
huge open fire piaees. The Second floor
was taken up wuh bedchambers, in which
were just such patch work quills, and white
counterpanes as are lo he seen in any of
our old larm houses. The front of the
house commands a magnificent view of the
Potomac river aud old Fort Washington.
A rouh attempt has been mape to spell
the uauie ot VV ashington in the form ot
tiie Oeus iu ihe garoeu, al least the gardner
said so.bui as lar as the reacuiolance goes,lt
might as wed t-pell Cornwall:. In the
garden is a large magnolia tree planted by
the baud of asliinlon; each ot the Pli
riais was presented w Uti a leaf lrom it as
a rouiemiirauce ol the trip. Leaving Jit.
Vernon the tarty arrived at Washington
nt ten o'clock. '1 oo much credit can not be
giveu to Mesers Smith and Harper, the
managers ot the expedition. We hereby
return our thanks fur tue gjod aire taken
ofusbylhctu ou the trip. We should
like to give a lengthy account of ML
Vernon, Washington, Alexandria and
Baltimore but the lateness of our arrival
home precludes the possibility of its inser
tion in this w eeks LUkald.
