This village has lately suffered the in fliction ot a visit from one of the "Poodle Breed" of men, one suffering from a se vere attack ot "Scribblers Itch." The lype is well and generally known, and as generally despised. They endeavor to elevate themselves by detracting from aud slandering other and lietter people. Their limited faculties, and weakened intellects see no difference between sarcasm and downright lying ; mistake exaggerations for wit, and ill nature tor intellect. They are generally hollow chested, weak kneed, blear eyed, and dyspeptic They assail ail full formed and heallhy people with the regular snap, snarl and bark of the poodle, race. We have not seen, but take it for cranted that the Confluence specimen has all the "flesh marks" of tbe genuine breed. Certain it b he would compare badly with the honest youths, the manly fellows who are seeking improvement in the "little school house behind the blacksmith shop," at whom he sneers as uncouth, awkward countrymen, as if there was reproach or disgrace in the name. Some of them we know to be honest, imlusirinus, and intelligent; the sons of men of wealth and character, and that they are honest enough to acknowledge their lack of learning and industrious en.-iiirh to seek improvement at the 'for mal," is certainly less to their discredit than '.he woald-be-wit who sneers in such lame fashion at them. Dreadful, indeed would be the result, but we have the cheering hope that they are and will remain serenely unconscious of his disapproval and even of his existence. Like many other would-be fashionables, the question of a heallhy locality, was less important than that of "cheap board ing." People can undoubtedly live here cheaply if they so desire, yet it is attended with some necessary expense except in the tase of zoophiles, sponges, or para sites that are presumed to dra.v n mri-h-uient from hardy and vigorous p'aats that have a foothold in the soil. American passion for relics was well dis played ; parties were to be seen in every pa: tott lie house, from garret to cellar, burning reiioc Somu ot them carried off pieces of stone weighing two or three Kunds froiu me steps in lrontot the bouse, rusty nails were brokeu out, pieces ot board chipped off and in fact anything the vandals cx.u Id get there bands on were carried away. One young man, hatchet m hand, was seen busily burning that cherry tree. He hau a truthf ul expression of couu-U-l. ices but a n.su wlume color would lii v put to shame a Bedford County girl's store cire.-ss. VV e hojie he was successful in his scaruU. Mt. Vcruon is a large, airy old farm house. The rooms on iLe hrsl floor ale spacious, with bicli ceilings and huge open fire piaees. The Second floor was taken up wuh bedchambers, in which were just such patch work quills, and white counterpanes as are lo he seen in any of our old larm houses. The front of the house commands a magnificent view of the Potomac river aud old Fort Washington. A rouh attempt has been mape to spell the uauie ot VV ashington in the form ot tiie Oeus iu ihe garoeu, al least the gardner said so.bui as lar as the reacuiolance goes,lt might as wed t-pell Cornwall:. In the garden is a large magnolia tree planted by the baud of asliinlon; each ot the Pli riais was presented w Uti a leaf lrom it as a rouiemiirauce ol the trip. Leaving Jit. Vernon the tarty arrived at Washington nt ten o'clock. '1 oo much credit can not be giveu to Mesers Smith and Harper, the managers ot the expedition. We hereby return our thanks fur tue gjod aire taken ofusbylhctu ou the trip. We should like to give a lengthy account of ML Vernon, Washington, Alexandria and Baltimore but the lateness of our arrival home precludes the possibility of its inser tion in this w eeks LUkald.
