The evidence brought forth the tact that the man who was sailing under the name ot Charles Miller was Linton P. Johnsoo, a resident of Cambria county. The jury returned a verdict or guilty and tne Court sentenced Jonas Miller to 2 years and 8 months and Charles ililler to 1 year's imprisonment in the Western Penitentiary. . Com. vs. Edward Spangler, Surety ol the peace. This unfortunate man was discharged from the county jail where he had been confined for some time, and handed to the Poor House Directors to be kept in such custody as will be necessary for Lis own security and that of others. The grand jury made return to the Court that the room in which they met was un fit for the purpose, and the Court ordered that it be repaired and furnished in a suit able msnner. CIVIL LIST. The stairs which are sur rounded by a handsome black walnut rail ing, lead into a small vestry room to the right of which is the entrance to the gal lery. From the vestry, two doors open into the audience room, one on the right the other on the left Directly in front of the doors, at the farther end of the room is the altar, which is simply a raised pt form having a reading desk on the right In the rear of the alter i a rrviv sofa for the convenience of the ministers. The pews are of the best pattern and the floor is cov ered with a handsome carpet The stained glass windows cast a soft subdued light throughout the room that lends an addi tional beauty to the surroundings. The room is iarge enough to seat four hundred persons comfortably, and the gallery prob ably fifty more. The sermon was preached by Elder Jones, of Ohio. H; took bis text from viii Kings, which ail Biblical stu dents know speaks of the consecration of Solomon s Temple. Alter the sermon was over a collection was taken ud. the proceeds of which were to be devoted to the paying of the debt on the church. Twelve hundred and thirty-two dollars and thirty cents, ($1,232 30) was the amount raised, which, considering the stringency ot the money market and the fact that the congregation had most of them been burnt out by the fire of 1872, was an extremely liberal contribution. We understand that the amount raised will liquidate all the indebtedness, and that with an additional five hundred they will be able to put the steeple, cornice Jand other outside adornments upon the building. In the afternoon the sacrament ot com munion was partaken of by the members of the congregation and their visiting brethren. At the eventn service the church was more crowded, if such a thing were possible, than in the morning. The sermon was preached by Elder Jones, who took for his subject 'The Signs ot the Times." The arguments used, ail went to prove that the signs of the times all point ed toward an alliance ot all the protes tant churches in defense of the Bible. Elder -Jones ?pok f ! r 5n Ohio that is now being waged between Protes tants and Catholics in regard to free schools, and made it patent to the most obtuse that it was a question which inter ested all protestants in the United States. Eider Jones preached here about thirty years ago and is much beloved by the older members of the congregation. The Xnltiplieatlaa Diseases m ultiply. One begets another.
