Farmers tell us that where lime has been freely used on farms in this section there is a striking contrast in the appear ance of the crops this season with land w here no lime has been used, such crops presenting a much more thrifty appear ance. .Many or our farmers arc beginning to more fully realize the value ot lime as a fertilizer. As far back as twenty years ago the experiment was tried in this neigh borhood w ith the best effects, but strange to say. a large proportion of our farmers have yet the first bushel to apply to their soil. The few who have been more far- seeing and enterprising in this respect are reaping their reward in much more pro ductive crain and crass crops. Pa., a war of extermination is waged against the crows, a reward of three cents being paid for each scalp. In stead of condemning it. we are astonished to see the papers of that county publishing the murderer of the most crows as a pub lic benefactor. The only crime charged against the crow by his icalignant enemy is that aotnetimes in the spring, he pull's up a little of the farmer's corn. Yet he sjicnds all the rest of the year in hunting up and destroying the worst insect enemies the farmer La. Crows a ill even eat po tato bugs, and a farmer who planted his potatoes lat year, on the edge of a woods had his vines" kept pcr!'ect!y"clear of the bugs by the crows. In addition to this testimony the K'etUrn Rural rektes how a tame crow which had tuc run of the garden kept it free from the striped cucumber bugs, searching for them closely lenealh the leaves ; and not finding sufficient employment nt home, cleared the neighbors' gardens for a dis tance around. If one tame crow cvHiId thus ustlully employ its talents and time, of what use would the whole family of crows become could we happily enlt them in our service, instead of treating them in our present Lostiie manner, of which thev certainly have caws to complain.
