Burgess. SfsrEXsios in ;he anthracite regions has seriously affected the ojicra tiuns of every anthracite furnace in the Schuvlkiil region and the Lebanon Valley, as well asthie located in other parts of the State east ot the Alleghenies. The anthracite furnaces in that vicinity are making arrangements to introduce Con nellsville coke from the West to make up for the shoit supply of anthracite. The introduction ot Connelisville coke will be one of the means resorted to and as this Iihs already len tried with wonderful effect in smelting ore, the end may be the introduction of an article to compete wiih anthracite coal, which will lorever here after share a market that was heretofore mouoolizcd by its miners. Experienced manulaclurers agree that it has become absolutely necessary to seek for other fuels tit carry on their business, as the frequent interruptions in the anthracite coal trade leave them in a condition either to intro duce otier fuels or suspend business. Those w ho control the production of Western coke see this, and areaccordingly pushing their trade eastward. L'uiontotr standard. percent. 1 ghter man any otiicr plow- now - i Cth day of March, by C. A correspondent from Pa via informs us that that usually quiet village was thrown into an excitement ou Thursday evening of last week by the ac cidental drowning ot Master Loring Ritchey, & son of Josiah Ritchey. a prom inent citizen of the town. Bobb's Creek, which passes through the town, was on a high, and young Ritchey, aged about 10 years, made an attempt to cross the stream on a foot log, near his father's residence, when he fell off into the raging waters and was carried away, despite the efforts of his father nrd several other persons who wit nessed the occurrence. The accident oc curred about 5 o'clock p. m., and imme diatcly a search was instituted, but the shades of night interposed in the course of several hours, w hen the search was giv en up for the time, and the afflicted parents were forced to put in a night of misery w e will cot attempt to describe. Ou the fol lowing morning the search was resumed at an early hour, and about 10 o'clock the corpse was found lodged in a lot of drilt, about a mile from the town. They imme diately conveyed the body to the residence ot the distressed parents, which alleviated their sufferings to a great degree, as they had given up all uojie oi ever seeing even the remains, and ot the privilege, pleasure and gratification of sacredly interring that which had been snatched from them by tlitf jaws of death, under very adverse cir cumstances. At n inquest, over which W. S. Ake, Esq., presided, it was found that the deceased cime to his death bv- ac cidental drowning. Bedford Inquirtr. New Exles ix Base Ball. Calling "wides only, and not more than three successive unfair balls to be de livered before "wide" is called. A "w ide" to be called should the ball strike the batsman when standing in position. J. lo nnnul foul bounds. A legal catch hereafter to lie on the fiv only. 4 The rule in base running pertaining to fair balls caught on the liv to apply to all balls caught on the fly. 5. Players on the bases running on a 'foul" (foul fly excepted) to be ulloAed o return to the base tliey had left wilhout .cing put out. 0. The striker's position and the home base to be a loot, at least, outside of the foul ball line, so as to do away w ith fair foul hits.
