Trial by jury shall lie as hereto fore, and the right thereof remain invio late. Sec. T. The printing press shall lie free to every person who may undertake to ex amine the proceedings of the Legislature or any branch of government, and no iaw shall ever be made to restraiu the right thereof. The free communication of thoughts and opinions is one of the invalu able rights of man, and every citizen may freely speak, write and print on any snb ject, leiiig responsible for the abuseof that lilierty. No conviction shall be had inany prosecution for the publication of papers relating to the official conduct of officers or men in public capacity, or to any other matter pner for public investigation or information where the fact that such publi-1 cation was not maliciously or negligently made shall lie established to the satisfac tion of the jury ; and in all indictments for libels the jury shall have the right to de termine the law and the facts, under the direction of the court, as in other casei. Sec. 8. The people shall be secure in their persons, houses, papers, aud posses sions, from unreasonable searches and seirures, and no warrant to search any place or to seize any person or things, shall issue without describing them as nearly as may be, nor without probable cause, ni ported by oath or affirmation, subscribed to by the affiant. No act of tbe General Assem bly shall limit the amount to lie recovered fr injuries resulting in death, or for injur ies to persons or projierty, aud in case of death rrom such injuries, the right of ac tion shall survive, and the General Assem bly shall prescribe for whose benefit such action shall lie prosecuted ; no act shall prescribe any limitations of time within which suits may be brought against corpo rations for injuries to peison or projierty, or for .other causes different from those fix- by general law regulating actions against natural persons, and such act now existing are avoided. Sec. 27. A member of the General Asi seniblv who shall solicit, demand, or re ceive, or consent to receive, directly or in directly, for himself or for another, from any compauy, corporation, or persou, any money, office, appointmeut, employment, testimonial, reward, thing of value or en joyment, or of personal advantage or prom ise thereof, for his vote or official intlaence, or for withholding the same, or with an un derstanding, expressed or implied, that hi vote or official action shall be in any way influenced thereby, or who hall solic it or demand any such money or other ad vantage, matter, or thing aforesaid for an other, a the consideration f bis vote or of ficial influence, or for withholding the same, or shall give or withhold bis vote or influence in consideration of the payment or promise of such money, advantage, mat ter, or thing to another, shall be held guil ty of bribery within the meaning of this Constitution, and shall inrnr the disabili ties provided thereby for said offense, and such additional punishment as i or shall be provided by law. SEC. 30. Any person who shall, direct ly or indirectly, offer, give, ur promise any money, or thing of value, testimonial, priv ilege, or personal advantage, lo any exe cutive or judicial officer or memlier of the General Assembly, to influence biin in the performance of any of his pnblie or official duties, shall be guilty of bribery, and be punished lu snch manner as shall be pro vided by law. Sec. 31.
