It Is iiot atir'prisiug UoW'ft-days, to eo tlio ntiiKvuni-utncnt tlmt a uow political party is nuurit lo bo Insti tuted. These new orgtrnteatious nro uu Hlly baptized, by an lUtructives name logain popular favor with' tho masses. Lntely wo havo a rcpOlt'llint tbo great "political ro former," Alexander McClurc, is tbo father .' of a' newly conceived party, and Col. J. W. "l5rney its mother. Thcso two politicians 'have for several years been contemplating xtbo organization of a parly that they could 'own, control, and use for their own politi cal aud personal advancement. They broke away from tbo Republican party last year, supported tbo Democratic ticket iu tbo Sta'o Campaign, nnd in the national content tbo former also supported the Dem ' ucratio candidate, while the lattor pursued - a course so exceedingly luke-warm that he might belter have openly opposed Grant and 'Wilson. Having failed to recover their former slaudiug iu the Republican party Messre. McClurc aud Forney now propose the organization of a tiew parly, to be call ed tbo People's Parly. Theso g( ntlemen have, however, protittedby their disastrous defeat last year, aud now do not propose to build their new party on a national plat form, but purpose the organization of a par ty whoso object it will be to draw iulo its ranks just enough Republicans to elect a full, or nearly full, delegation of Democrats to the legislature from Philadelphia next fall, also, to give the Democrats control of the municipal government. "Messrs. Mc- Clure nnd Foruey appear to have only ono political motive to livo for now, and that Is to be revenged ou tbo Republican party. Of course they will attempt to justify this movement on the plea that they seek to pu rify politics ; to elect a better class of men to ihe legislature, but that is a mere sham for it is notorious that no two men in our stato havo been ruoro unscrupulous, or done more to corrupt politics than the1. The blackest stain that rests ou the Republican party was brought upon it by ouo of these parties. We allude to the Evans' war ' claim swindle. It is notorious that Evans 'received bis appointment through Col. Foruey, and not a word of condemnation has ever been beard from cither McClurc or Foruey. $y Forney's own admission lie received a portion of the plunder. Mc ' Clure, while a member of the Legislature, aud since, as a lobbyist, bullied through the most corrupt corporation net that has yet passed our Legislature. Now wo are , . , f, I Jill' L utOduaDlUUi II. 1 1 1 1 13 ki.lVU I 1 1 .1 1, Lily. to have these men lo lead a movement ofj,,m ivcs tho nepublicans 22 out of ihe reform, in the institution of a "Reform" j Twenty-seven districts, ou the basis of tho ' party. It is true thero is reform needed in tbo politics of Philadelphia as well as in that of the Slate at large, but wo cauuot place confidence in a movement of reform headed by men who havo been among the most promiueut corruptionisls of tho past. This new party is not conceived with a view to holiest reform so long as the two men named aro the projectors and leaders, nnd it will meet with a defeat worse than any other ever kuown. T. Stewart, the New Yorfc million aire, is said to bo very sick from Bright1 disease of tho kidneys, a disease that U nearly always fatal. We have no doubt tho great capitalist would give millions for good health. The man with hard industri ous bauds, and good health, is better off than the sick millionaire with all his mon ey. Money is by no meaus the over-shad owing thing to bo desired that it often gets credit for. Good health, a clear couscieuce and contentment are infinitely more promo live of happiness. A lively scene took place iu the -House of licpreseutiitives, on Monday afternoon last. There was an opinion that a little gug game was being played between the gentle inau temporarily in the chair, and the speaker, M r. Elliott. For a while the scene was similar lo a Donnybrook fair, with the ommissiou of shelhtlebs. Talk of throwing out of tho windows was iudulgcd iu.but an adjournment was obtained and the excite ment subsided. John B. The appointment is an excellent one, aud will give general satisfaction, as it is well kuowB that Mr. Linu is one of the best qualified men for the position, and is in every way deserving of the honor.
