DlCAn Wilvehts Thanksgiving, of tho day set apart by tho President for prayer and t( return thank to Dim who has the control of buttles, was properly observed by the Army and Navy at this place. The proclamation of the President whs read from the pulpits of tho different churehss ou the Sunday evening previous, and invitation extended to nil who wished to participate in the services on that occasion. General Woodbury issue i a circular requesting all of bis command to observe the day in a becoming manner and to attend Divine service at their usual places of worship. Hu ordered that all drills and policeing should be dispensed with, so that the men were at liberty to spend the day as their feelings best dictated. The invitation of the Clergy was accepted, and the Military, by companies attended church. Company C, headed by Captain Gobin and Lieutenant Oyster, marched to the Episcopal church, where an eloquent discourse wus delivered by the Rev. Dr. Derrick, but owing to the great crowd many were compelled to retire, thus losing an intellectual treat that would have benetitted them more than the mere listening to a common sermon. The Rever end gentleman of this church has been very kind to our regiment in reserving seats tor their accommodation. One act of his speaks for itself, viz : on our arrival here he ad dressed a note to the Colonel nf the 47th, inviting the officers and men to attend the services at St. Marks church, and mentioned particularly that the seats were free. On the Saturday following Thanksgiving a Yacht race came off on the waters between Sand Key Light House nnd Key West. Some thirty bouts were entered. Boats of all kinds, from n Captains gig to a thirty or forty ton schooner. The wind was line und a splendid day they had for the purpose. Euch bout hud n Hug that it might be known, and as they moved off, the fleet mudo a grand displav. From tho ramparts of Fort Taylor the sight was nagniticcnt, for from that point one had a full view, and an op portunity afforded of follow ing the different parties, with the eye, until they gained the turning point and their return to the start ing ground. A steam tug followed the putty, having on board ladies, the committee and guests, w ho had n jolly time ot it, and an opportunity of tripping the "light, fantastic toe," to the fine music of the 4 ? til Rand, lead by that excellent musician. Prof. Hush. Quartermaster Lock's schooner "Nonparicl" won the ruce.out distancing all its competi tors. Of that fact I was certain, for how else could it be, when its name belongs to the "art, preservative of nil arts" printing. Lust Wednesday brought two-thirds of the "three years" of the "Sunbury Guards" to a close, when Lieut. Recs surprised the boys, agreeably, by giving them an enter tuintuetit. In this the Lieut., took the bturt of the other officers of the company, but as all joined in devouring the good things furnished, every one was in a good humoV and satisfied, no matter who was the caterer for the occasion. Company C is blessed with good otlieers men w ho do, as they wish t be done by. This little celebration hud a good effect, for if there was any mis understanding, previously, it is now settled, and no better conducted or well regulated family, where good feeling are exhibited, can lie found among the solnicrsof I't.ele Sam. Our company is ulijldly envied on account of their good gnib, but for this the boys should not be blamed, for Gobin, w ho lias charge of the company savings, is cmi Titmally hunting the market for the bit it nliords, and hergeant Piers and Johnny Voonsch serve it up in their best slle, prov ing to others that soldiers can, if they good cooks, live us well as any "other man." The nomination of Governor Curtin for re-elect ioi: was well received, and if they had the riyit to vote there would be no fear of the next Chief Magistrate of Pennsylvania lciiig u copperhead. The decisiou of Judge Woodward, depriving the soldier of a vote, is looked "upon as ii bribe for not re enlist ing; am! indeed it is, for does it not give the bounty of the right of t-ullrage to ivory elector who stays at home J The voting men of the 47th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, are as a unit for the re-election of Andrew G. Cui'lin. iSloekade running is nearly played out, and is confined to Mobile and Wilmington, N. O. Very few vessels of this sort are brought into this port ut present, ow ing to the strict wutch that is kept on the above named places; however, u day or two ago, the U. S. Steamer JJt .cto brought in two very large river steamers laden w ith cotton. The cotton is being transferred to other vessels and will soon be sent North, where it will be put in market for sale. Oily tl" the houses belonging to the Engi neer Department was entirely destroyed by lire en last Thursday. It was occupied by the laborers as a sleeping apartment. How the lire originated is unknown, but it is supposed to have caught from a tobacco pipe of one of the men, or from a spark of the locomotive that is used in hauling material for the outside works ut Fort Taylor. The buys are ull very well and in line spirits, only a little more active life, and occusionul brush with the cneHiy, they think, would give them a lietter appetite mid enable them to enjoy the rations fournished by Govern ment.
