The fight commenced on Thursday and was
continued ou Friday and Saturday. Tbe
fight during the latter day was desperate.
Tbe Illinois Eighteenth Regiment suffered
severely, aud the Iowa Ninth sustained con
siderable loss.
Swarlz's battery which was token by tbo
enemy, was recaptured by our men.
Two Colonels wero wounded and two
killed.
The loss is heavy on both sides.
The upper Tort wus tuken at four o'clock,
