The hus band, who is a baker by trade, was employed at Taylorville and was not at home, the members of the family at home being Mrs. Cirwiusky, her two children, aged respec tively five and nineteen months old, aud her brother, ayed about twelve years. All slept in the same room, and when the last named awoke in the morning he was sur prised to find he could not rouse Mrs. Cirwiusky nor the youngest child, and upon futher examination they were proved to be dead. A medical investigation seemed to indicate that she 'had died from a cramp or spasm during the night and that she had squeezed the child to death during her agony. Scrvuton Cily Journal. Dr. Linderman, Director of the Mint, says that he bus now enough silver com on hand to substitute for the paper fractional currency at any lime. It amounts to about 812,0()U,000, in half and quarter dollars, twenty-cent pieces and dimes. This silver coin is intrinsically worth a trifle less than the present gold value of greendacks, aud consequently could not be bought up and exported without loss. The price of gold would have to run up to 118 in greenbacks before the silver and paper currency would be of equal value. The present volume of fractional currency is about 30,000)00, and a supply of silver coin can be furnished us rapidly as desired without any loss to the Government. If Dr. Lindermau's proposition to do so should bo carried out it will look as if fall resumption might be expected some time duric- the preseut generation. Hambleton, of Georgia, the man who named one of his children after John "Wilkes Booth, ' the assassin of Abraham Lincoln, has been compelled to resign his positiou as Clerk of the Ways and Means Committee at Washington. One of the first acts of the Democratic House, on coming into power alter an exclusion of fifteen years, was to put this man into one of its most honorable and important offices. The Republican members of the committee protested in vain. The Xew York Tribune took the matter in hand recently and pro duced incontestible proofs that Hambleton had actually committed this shameful act, in spite of which the Democrats had honored him. Hambleton vigorously denied the charge, but the Tribune proved him to be a liar and black-mailer as well as a ruffian, and this was more than his party friends could stand. Are there any more Hamble tons in office at Washington ? Sxecial IN"otice. Pahents are interested in W'anamaker & Brown's big advertisement.
