Most people imagine that house plants poison the air of a room by the inhalation of carbonic acid during the night. That this is a popular fallacy and that it should be speedily consigned to the well-peopled limbo of "Vulgar Errors," was demonstra ted not long since by Professor Kedzic of the .Michigan Agricultural College. To make the test as conclusive aa possible, in stead of taking the air from a room con taining a few plants only, the professor gathered it from the college green-house, where more than 6,000 plants were grow ing. The room had been closed for more than twelve hours ; aud if the plants ex haled carbonic acid to an injurious extent, the analysis of air from such a room would 1 T 1 l .1 f mi certainly nave disclosed tne lact. inree specimens of this imprisoned air were gath- thered shortly before sunrise, from differ ent parts of the rooms, the analysis of which gave 4,11, 4.00, 4.00 parts of a carbonic acid in 10,000 of air, or an average of 4.03 in 10,000, while the outdoor air contained 4 parts in 10,000, thus proving that the . air in tne crrcen-house was better than pure country air."
