iLLL i tfot Sick but Twenty Years in Bed. Amooff the recent deaths in Germany (ttj the Pall Mall Gazette) there is an nounced that of a man whose character tod career supplies a carious commentary on the principle of "hereditary genius" fia eldest son of Wilhelm von liumblodt Jle had tn common wun nis lamer and uncle both name and wealth, besides this absolutely nothing. He was all his life ioD- -and a long life of seventy fire years t wa9 what is called in Germany ..rtndcrlioff. which in his case meant rather more than our "queer fish." Among the various feats whereby he laid claim to distinction among nis contempor ries must De reckoned li is spending m last twenty years or so exclusively in bed, iltbougn enaoweu wun me most vigor ous health, and not even being able to im--ir "it bv this long-drawn-out freak. As to the rest of his career, all that can be eaiJ of this small scion of a great house is that he was proprietor of the estate of Oitmachu, in Silesia, a very fine and large property, which had been given to his father as reward for his services to the Prussian State. Also that his death took place in Berlin, and that he was buried at Kegel, the sepulcher of his great name sakes. During a recent thunder shower a re indent of Plainfield, N. J., by the name of Lacy, . was struck by lightning and knocked down, but, strange to say, in stead of being injured was greatly bene fited. He had been afflicted with rheu matism as to be obliged to walk with a eaoe, sod so deaf that he had not heard a clock tick during the past ten years. On rising from the ground he could walk as nimbly as any one, and could hear ap parently as well as ever. There is now in full bearing on the farm of Jehu Burroughs, in Union town ship, N. J., a pear tree which has survi ved five generations. It was planted by John Heritage, a soldier of the llevolu tioo, who was a prisoner on the old "Jer eey," at New York. This old pear tree yielded several bushels of fruit the pre tent season. The fruit is known as the "butter pear." At last accounts Chicago was drunk enough to be arrested at the rate of two Luudred and forty-three a week, and they only take up a man there when he can't get up himself. The Kick a poo Indians hare invcs'ed the money arising from the sale of their lands in the new five per cent. loan. Autumn is hanging its banners on the forests. IT HAS NO EQUAL. In all cases of Dyspepsia, Liver Complaint and Kidney diseases, Mishler's Herb Bitters will be found a reliable remedy. It has been before the American people for over ten yearn, and is now recognized as a standard preparation. It ii ld by Druggists everywhere, posseees the confidence of the people in a greater de gree than any other patent medicine, and is endorsed and recommended by Physicians in every section of the country.
