Offensive Breath. Offensive breath is sometimes occasioned by carious teeth. Delescotte's myrtle opiate has been rec ommended as a counteractive in such cases, mis is prepared Dy immersing eight ounces of the best honey with two ounces of rose water, over a gentlo fire Jor a lew minutes, and then adding as - much powdered myrrh and Armenian bole as vill form a soft pa?te. It is ap plied to Ihe teeth on a brnsh, and is gen erally successful in removing auy un pleasant odor from them for a time. Also, if the mouth be well rinsed with a teaspoonful of the solution of the chlor ide uf soda in a tumbler of water, the cad odor of the teeth will be destroyed. vXhe following preparation, diluted with water, may be used : Chloride of lime, a quarter of an ounce; water, one ounce; agitate well together for half an hour in n small phial; filter, and add spirit, one ounce; rose or orange flower water half un ounce. Put a Holo Through it. One night Gen. was on the line. He observed a li-jrht on the mountain on- posite. Thinking it was a signal light of me enemy, ne told Lis artillery officer that a hole could be easily put through it. "Whereupon the officer, turning to the corporal in charge of the gun said : "Corporal, do you see that light?" "Yes, sir.". "Put a hole through it." The Corporal sighted the gun, when nil was ready, he looked up and said : "General, that's the moon." To Freshen Salt Fish. Many pcrions who are in the habit of freshening cr.ckcrel, or other salt fish, never dream that there is a right and rrong way to do it. Any person who J;as seen the process of evaporation going" m at the suit works, knows that the salt falls to the bottom. Just so it is in the pan where the mackerel or white fish lies soaking as it lies with the skin down, the salt will fall to the skin and there remain when, if placed with the flesh side down, the salt will fall to the bottom of the pan, aud the fish comes out freshened as it should be. In the other case it is Leariy as salt as when put in. 4i A staid old Quaker, contemplating im provements on his property, called his neighbors together one day, and gave them the following advice: " I have a small piece of ground, on which I mean to build. There is an oak tree on it which I must cut down. Sev eral citizens have hung themselves on the tree, and if any of you have a desire 10 do the same, I now give you notice that you have no time to lose. How to Preserve Eggs. An ca?y way to preserve eggs is to rub the outside of the shell as soon as it is gathered from the nest, with a little but ter or any other grease that is not fetid. By filling up the pores of the shell, the evaporation of the liquid part of the eggs is prevented, and by this means excludes the external air. The milkiness which tno.-t people are fond of in new laid egg3, will be preserved for months, as perfect ts Vihen taken from the cost. How to Suake off Tkouele. See about doing good to somebody.'
