A CAED FEOM THE American Watch ompanj CF WALTHAM, MASS. This Company begs leave to inform the public that Ihey commenced operations in 1850, and their factory now covcra four acres ot ground, and has cost more than a minion dollars, and employs over 700 operatives They produce 7",U00 Watches a year, and make and sell not less than one-half of all the watches sold in the United Stales. The difference betw een their manufacture nnd the European, is briefly this: European Watches ore made almost entirely by hand, and the result is of necessity a lack of that uniformity, which is indispensable to correct time-keeping. JJolh the eye and the hand of the most skillful operative must vary. But it is a tact that, except walchcs ot the higher grades, huropcan watches are the product of the cheapest labor of Switzerland, and the result is the worthless Ar.cres, Le pir.es ami so called Patent Levers which coet more in attempted repairs, than their vrujmal price. Common workmen, lxys and women, buy the rough separate parts of these, watches front various factories, polish and put them together, and take them to The nearest watch merchant, who stamps and engraves them with any name or brand that may be ordered. HOW AMERICAN WATCHES ARE 3IADE. The American Waltham Watch is made by no such uncertain process and by no such" incompetent workmen. All the Com pany's operations, from the reception of the raw materials to the completion of the Watch, are carried on under one roof, and under one skillful and competent direction. Hut the great distinguishing feature of their Watches, is the fact that their several parts ere all made by the finest, the most perfect and delicate machinery ever brought to the aid of human industry. Every one of hte more than a hundred parts of every watch is made by a machine tha, infallibly re produces every succeeding part with the most unvarying accuracy. It was only ne cessary to make one perfect watch of any particular style and then to adjust the hun dred machines necessary to reproduce every part of that watch, and it follows that every succeeding watch must be like it. The Company respectfully submit their watches on their merit only. They claim A HETTER ARTICLE FOR THE 3HWEY by their improved mechanical processes than can be made under the old-fashioned handi craft system. They manufacture watches of every grade, from a gocd, low priced, and substantial article, in solid silver hunting cases, to the finest chronometer; and also ladies' watches in plain gold or the finest enameled and jeweled cases; but the indis pensable requisite of all their watches is that they shall be GOOD TIMEKEEPERS. It should be remembered that, except their sin gle lowest grade named "Home Watch Company, Doston," ALL WATCHES made by them ARE FITLY WARRE.NTED by a special certificate, and this warrantee is good at all times against the Company or its ajrents. THEIR FIRST MORTGAGE B0SDS As an Investment J he rapid progress of the Union Pacific Kaiiroad, now building west from Omaha. Nebraska, and forming, with its western connections, an unbroken line across the continent, attracts attention to the value of the First Mortgage Bonds which the Com pany now offer to the public. The first question dsked by prudent 'investors is, " Are these bonds secure! ISext, "Are they a profitable investment 1" To reply in brief: 1st. The early completion of the whole great line to the Pacific is as certain as any future business event can be. The Govern ment grant of over twenty million acres of land a i:d.fil'ty million dollars in its own bonds practically guarantees it. One-fourth of the work is airendy done, and the tract contin ues to be laid at the rate of two miles a day. 2nd. I he Union Pacific Hail road bonds are issued upon what promises to be one of the most profitable lines of railroad in the country, ror many years it must be the only line connecting the Atlantic and Pa cific: and being without competition, it can maintain remunerative rates. 3J. 425 miles of this road are finished, and fully equipped with depots, locomotives, cars, &.c, and two trains are daily running each way. 1 lie materials for the remaining 92 miles to the eastern base of the llticky Mountains are on hand, and it is under con tract to be done in September. 4 ih. 1 he net earnings of the sections al ready finished are several times greater than the gold interest upon the First Mort gage Bonds upon such sections, and if not another mile of the mad were built, the part j already completed would not only pay inte rest and expenses, but be profitable to the Company. 5th. The Union Pacific Railroad bonds can be issued only as the road progresses, and therefore can nevei be in the market un less they represent a bona JiJe property. Otli. iheir amount is strictly limited by law to a sum equal to what is-granted by the U. S. Government, and for which it takes a second lien as its security. This amount upon the first 517 miles west from Omaha is only 816,000 per mile. ah. The fact that the U. S. Government considers a6econd lien upon the road a good investment, and that some of the shrewdest railroad builders of the country have already paid in five million dollars upon the 6tock (which is to them a third lien), may well inspire confidence in a first lien. 8th. Although it is not claimed that there can fce any better securities than Govern ments, there aie parties who consider a fiisl mortgage upon such a property as this the very best security in the world, and who sell their Governments to re-invest in three bonds thus securm: a creater interest. 9th. As the Union Pacific Railaoad bonds are offered for the present at DO cents on the dollar and accrued interest, they are the cheapen security in the market, being more tnan 15 per cent. less than U. S. Slocks. 10th. At the current rate of premium on gold, they pay OVEU NINE TER CENT. INTEREST. The daily subscriptions are already large, and they will continue to be received in New York by the Continental Xational Dank, No. 7 Nassau St., Clark, 'Dodge cj- Co., Bankers, No. 51 Wall St., John J. Cisco J- Son, Bankers, No. 33 Wall St., nd by BANKS and BANKERS generally throughout the United St itcs, of whom maps and descriptive pamphlets may be obtained. They will also be sent by mail from the Com pany's Office, No. 20 Nassau Street, New York, on application. Subscribers will se lect their own Agents in whom they have confidence, who alone will be responsible to them for the Fafe delivery of the bonds. JOHN J. CISCO, Treasurer, ' TiMZW YOItK. Jane 13.-3m.
