THE UNION, "IT MUST AND SHALL BE PRESFRVED-" ;: The Northern Eagle, ' An Independent, loyal Newspaper, advo cating the suppression of treason and the sus tenance of True Constitutional Libertv is puuusiKJu ul iuiuuru, i-iKe uounty, ra., eve ry Tuesday morning, Edward Haliday, jrroprietor. Apart from its efforts tn cndm'n f J,o TCritinn Hality of W. County, and the Union of the ,States, by clleerinir the hearts of our Soldiers in the fbld, and unmasking the designs of traitors at our firesides, The Northern Eagle will be found one of THE BEST FAMILY NEWSPAPERS issued from the Country press, as no pains or expense will be spared to secure the ablest writers on general Literature, Education, Correspondence, and every other topic ot the tiay. The want of a newspaper in Pike Countv, giving to the Government an unqualified sup port in its euorts to suppress the rebellion how threatening our National existence, has long been felt by the friends of the Union. In no other county in the Commonwealth has the Peace movement, inaugurated by Fernando Wood and his party, so many friends and supporters, tn no countv is the CroViornhient so openly assailed, its policy so misrepresented, and the laws so openly de Bed. While there are some members of the Democratic parly in this locality, who have openly and manfully stood up for, and aided the Government, the great mass of that par ty, and its Milford organ, have been open in their denunciation of the war, and in dis couraging our soldiers in the field Under these circumstances, confidently relying upon the support of loyal men, we have determined to publish The Northern Eagle, with a view of correcting and en lightening the public mind as to the true is sues involved in the war. The Eagle wjll give the Government a hearty and cheerful support in alL its efforts to save the country, and will have' no con nection with those who are directly or indi rectly in sympathy with the traitors of the South. Beyond this The Eagle will know no party. TERMS : Single copy, one year 2 00 " six months 1 00 Five copies, one year 8 00 Ten " " " K00 And an extra copy to the gctler up of the Club.
