Who chooses to take heed To the various forms that people it, Sage lessons, there may read. Countenances oft bespeak The feelings of the soul; O'er the index few can bear, . : At any time, control. We read of speculation In the piercing, wand'ring eye, That will nature's verdant beauties, With carelessness pass by. And rest with eager, searching glance Upon the yellow ground, Where symtoms show a precious ore Beneath it may be-found. We see the cautious man, in him Who lets the chatterer go Or, with his senseless jargon For awhile, and then will throw A sentence out, that seems to hit At once the very mark; Though the other's grand colloquial powers, Still left it in the dark: Sometimes we note a jaunty hat Half shadowing a face Which shaded by the matron's cap, Might still display much grace We read, in that youthful attire, A common truth, well told. 'Few women can, with gracefulness, Own Ihey are growing old. ' Here, too, the "queens of womanhood" Are very often seen. They're recognized by simple dress And modesty of mien. In fact, humanity we see In all its varied grades, And we find it inl'resting sometimes To watch its lights and shades. Men of good taste, we readily Perceive among the throng. How Little Pills are'&ade. A New York correspondent gives an interesting account of a recent visit to Prof. Humphrey's Homeopathic Estab Hsbment in Broadway. He hays: "I found the Professor in his Bludy and con eultation room, busy attending calls of bis patients and answering his extensive cor respondence. Upon his tablo wore letters from patients in almost every State in the Union, v,ho write him a description of their cases, and receive their medicines by mail. I judge from the amoant of correspondence that this is becoming a very vaforito mode of treatment for old, long-standing diseases. In his laborato ry all the fluids for medicating bis vari ous remedies are prepared by himself, which, together with hi? patients and oth er items necessarily belonging to his ex tensive business, must require no small amount of energy and capacity. 'The little pills themselves, cow so gen erally known, are made of proper propor tions of sugar aud starch, and only be come medicated aftur the liquid medi cines are poured upon them and they be- nnmn f,horourhlv saturated with it. To commenpe the pills, the finest dusted gu itar is sifted into a large deep pan, which is kept at an uniform moderate tempera ture, and the masB is worked under the hnd while the new material in fluid form if constantly added to it, until by degrees the pellets, by attritiou. attain the size ne cessary for use, when they are sifted into appropriate grades, and thoroughly dried nrenarntorv to beinir medicated. This is done i) placing tlem in large bottles, and the liquid medicine is poured over them until thej are fully saturated, when they arc dried and placed m the bauds of care ful abi.-tants, placed in boxes and cases properly labeled srud wrapped for the market. Some idea may bo formed o the popularity of his SpeciQc Remedies when we learn that at his establishment thero are prepared for the market, each reek, from fifty to one hundred gross o boxes, and about half that number of vi als, making an aggregate of not less than one million doses of medicine per week Immense as this supply is, the demand i Constantly increasing. 2Jew York Markets.
