- , Extraordinary Phenomenon. A correspondent of the Missouri Dem ocrat, writing from Arrow Rock, states that, on the morning of the 29th of Jan uary Inst, thero occurcd at that place an extraordinary phenomenon. It is de scribed as follows : "It consisted in four circles, (differing in diameter from -15 degrees to 1G0 de gree?,) one inverted areh or semi-circle, possessing all the primary colors and glow ing with all the briliancy of the ordinary rainbow; and also 5 parhelion?, or mock suns, com raonly known as sundog?. The circle of 1G0 deg. appeared to pass thr'o the centre of thesun, aud having the zenitq for its centre. The scene began at sun rise, and increased in beauty and splen dor as that luminary ascended the skies, until having attained analtitudc of about 40 deg. when it was perfect. At lOi o'clock a. M., the clouds dispersed and the phe nomenon passed away. Thus ended one of the grandest displays of the kind that has occurred since the appearance of the great ?olnr halos which occurred in September. 1030." Combat betwen an Alligator and a Gar. The Mobile Tilbitne relates a fight which took place some time ago, in a quiet lake near Choctaw Bluff, between an al ligator and a gar, in which the latter singular fih came off victorious, having chawed the leg and with his sharp teeth out the throat of his antagonist. We are told the curious fact that the surface for n wide space around was covered with every species of fish and a number of al ligators, all seemingly attracted by the noise made by the combatants and fpell bonnd in contemplating the conflict. 1 j To Officers, Solders.
