The meeting being an Infor o was conversational in character, and general Interchange of opinion was had of the adviudages to .both parties the city of Baltimore and the oil trade of this city as ts - alti Mr. Blanchard wooed the meeting that the Connellsvilleroad would be completed and in operation through to runt berland within eight months. Baltimore. he sald. would be thirty miles nearer the oil re and t han either New York or 'Philadelphia. it was the intention and policy of the road to Induce the oil trade to that point: It wan also to the advantage of the trade to adopt:Baltimore as the point of export an ac count of the many advantages it offered over Its more northern rivals. . . Mr. Blanchard said that the BaMinors and Ohio Railroad Company. In the road now building by wa of Connelsville, they have an Interest of 000,000. Mr. Hutchinson thought the shipment Bast amounted to about 5,000 barrels daily, and was only about two-thieds what it ought to be. The avenge rates were about $1.45 a bar rel. Mr. Blanchard could not say definitely what the rates on B. &P. line would be. They now shipped oil by B. & 0. road, from Parkersburg to Baltimore. a distance of twenty miles sictterthan from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia for 11) cents a barrel less, and that , road had a much heavier grade. ._ Mr. Forsythe—How do you propose to con nect with the Allegheny t alley road. The meeting continued for a considerable length of time, and the greatest harmony pre vailed as to the views of those present. Mr. Blanchard in concluslo<referred to the efforts of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company In conjunction with the city of Bal timore to make that city the shipping point for the west and south-west.
