O ar Investigation extends back to 1880, and from that date up to the present time the Controller's books show that the sum total returned by Al. dermen, for flees collected, amount. to 1285 12. We give below alist of the names of those who have made returns, with the date and amount returned: Joseph A.. Butler _lBB3l 5 00 W. C. Johns 1885 12 00 A. S. Nicholson-- 1901 . 9 02 J. The oillce of Alderman in this city might be made not only an effeetive and impor tant brandh of the my goirefmnent, but also a source of considerable reeenue if properly administered. We learn that an .Investigation is to be mate, and wherever it IC found that an Atierman has collected money doe the Oty and made no return of the Same,.a criminal prosecution will be instituted.
