day, says: The stesnier H. Clay Wil
son started from Syracuse, with a tow
of Coal, last Thursday eveninz, and just
as sho was opposite the lower ono of
Middleport, burst her main steam pipe,
which compelled her to lund, in doing
which she sunk a that containing 2,00 u
bushels of coal. No other damage was
done; and no one injured.

The local inspectors, in their report
upon the CuMberland disaster, charno
that the inspection was nor properly
made. We also have tuestatement that
the boilers of the Phantom, as were
those of the 'Cumberland, were ItnoWm
to he unsafe. Yet these boats were run
with 'valuable lives and cargoes on
board, until the inevitable re.sult—de
struction—follows. There is a terrible
responsibility somewhere, end there
should bo a speedy and rigidinvsetigi•
tion, ana the. responsibility Iliad where
it belongs.
