The geld market opened strong at 137%.
nlvanced to 137% and closed dull and
heavy at 137%. The bond market in
Lindon not having fully 'responded to
the decline in gold here, and the advance
in boucle in New York, doubts were en
tertained whether a further decline in
gold would take' place. , •
Government bonds were buoyant and
higher,.,wlth more orders to buy than
.
can be filled from the limited supp/y.
Stocks stronger and higher, and quite
an excitement in New York Central. and
Fort Wayne. Money moderately active.

PETROLEUM MARKET.
OFFICE OF PITTSBURGH GAZETTE,
Matinay, May 10, 1869.
The oil market was unusually active
to-day, the reported sales aggregating,
seven thousand barrels of. Refined, and.:
fifteen thousand barrels of Crude. On
one point, a very important . one, in
.re
gard to prices being lower, there was no•
equivocation; this was conceeed on all
hands, and the sales show thievery sells- -
factorily. For some time past there has
been so little done, t hat it was difficult
to get the exact tone of the market, and
without sales, prices : best could
only be regarded as no.. . 1. It would •
elko . appear, that the .grea:'.ulk of the
business was done in the early part (of
the day, and it was said that there were
but very few buyers in the after part of
the day,-even at the reduction.
CRUDE--Compared with Friday and_
Saturday, Crude• is down from a quarter
to a ball cent, and the market is weak,
with every appearancest this writing of
a still further decline. It is very desira
ble just now to get Crude down to Mann- facturing basis, and the sooner it reaches
that point the better , for the trade at
large. The sales were:
2,C00 bbls seller to July 40@43.., 14
