Nevertheless the gold, market advanced
suddenly to lalX, but closed at 181%

the May interest would be anticipatedis

Government bonds soddenly declined
today about one-fourth per cent. for the
old bonds, and seven-eighths• per cent.

believed that a further rise would take
place to-day. The still existing strin
gency in the money market keeps deal

la to be looked for in the selling out of
the !foreign houses, who use their means
in carrying stocks and care little to sub
mit, to such enormous rates of interest

ulated by cliques who have cheap money,
while those stocks left alone are also

in the way of business, while compared
with yesterday prices are fully half a
cent lower. The fact that the production
for March * shows a slight Increase over
that of the month preceeding. has given
renewed confidence to those who have
been and are still contending for:lower
prices, and they now predict' that :the
month of April will show a larger. in
crease over that of March, basing their
