Nearly all the large purchaseas are for short ac count, and when these are covered a fresh attack will be made, and — the pre mium, if possible, put so low that it will force cotton dealers to come forward with their stocks as fast as possible. . Government bonds took another jump to-d s ay of about one per cent. and closed firm with an excited market; quotations are steadily advancing in' Europe, and the still large outstanding short interest in New York force parties now to buy. Speculation is carried on to an enor mous extent in Europe on account of the greater facility offered there in the prin cipal markets. Settlenient are made for other securiti' semi-monthly, but for American bons monthly, which gives the cliquesere greater power, and there as well aft in New York the market went 'Agile than even the most sanguine speculator calculated, and there fore sold short. From this fact, and the n I I ode of settlement in Europe, i t is pox -5 We that the reaction will not set in u til the first of March, when no doubt a heavy decline is inevitable, from the f ct that few will 'have money enough to pay the margins, and bonds will be sdcriticed. Stocks are dull with little doing, but prices are well sustained. Express shares are firm with activity. Quotations as received by Ph. R. CATTLE There was again a light supply of Cat tle on sale to-day, only about 600 head, and while prices were fully sustained, the market was a very tame one, and was devoid of that life and bouyancy which usually prevails under the influ ence of 'abort supply. There were no outsiders in attendance, and the butchers were the only purchasers, and for some reason, or other, they did not take hold very freely, and this being the case, the supply was fully up the demand. The Cattle on sale appeared to be pretty well divided between Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Pennsylvania, while_so far aCquali. ty is concerned, there was, so far as we could see, but little difference, compared with last week. And while the number of Cattle on sale, was not as large as it was last week, the market was not ,appa rently, asstrong, though as already inti mated, prices were fully sustained. There does not seem to be the same disposition. mani fested in the country to force Sheep on the market, that there has been all win ter, which is in consequence of shearing time being near at hand, and we do not look for very large arrivals until after clipping time is over.
