The hour of adjournment haVingirrived, Judge Brewster informed the jury that this case would- probably , take a week, and he cautioned _them nht•to speak of it. or per mit any_ one else to do so. The Court at 5 I'. M. adjourned. ' Hew, to Preserve Prest"Crystab. .find We d in-Galignani the following inter esting account or a curious discovery, re cently made by M. Animate Bertsch, and , turned, to practical account by M. Kull!- r . 'mann, the celebrated chemist. Who is there that has not; during cold winters. stopped ti admire the beautifully syrmnet , rival and yet fantastic figures of leaVes and flowers depicted on the window-panes of h well-heated room, the air of which is charged with aqueous particles? It. Bertsch :has found that epsotnsalts Xsulphate of ' magnesia) dissolved in beer, together with a small quantity of dextrine (artificial g um), and in this state applied to -a pane of , gla ss with .a sponge .or brush, will, on crystal izing, produce the identical designs above alluded to, hitherto considered peculiar to' Water; with this - improvement, however; that the liquid may receive any color what ever at the option.of -th6operator. The ephemeral productsins of frost may thus be easily perpetuated; but Mr. Kuhl mannEon being apprised of the fact, con eeived the idea of going a step farther, and transferring 'those fawy-like creations to stuffs' and paper. For this purpose he first got the crystalization on sheets of iron , on which - he afterwards laid one of lead. By means of a powerftd hydraulic press, the minutest details of the figures in question were durably imprinted;on the soft metal, and a copy of them in relief was then ob. I tained by galyzumplastics. But here an other dililcuity arose. In the impression of cotton stuffs the. pattern. must be con tinuous; whereas in Mr. Kuhlmann's plates the lines at one end would not clearly coin cide with those at the i other, so that disa greeable interruptions would be caused in the printed designs. This obstacle, how ever, bas been overcome in a most ingenious manner•by effecting 'the crystalization on the cylindrical surface of a roller. A slight rotary motion imparted to it will prevent the liquid front, accumulating at any par ticular point before it has evaporated.
