—The Senate resolution, calling upon the
Secretary of the Treasuary fora list of the na-
Donal banks that had fatted to keep up their
reserie of lawful Money, was aimed at those
banks in New York city which were reported
to by deficient in that respect,mider the sup
position that. the Secretary- was In possession
of - official Information on the sabJect. The
letter -of the Comptroller of the -Currency,
which .was sent to the Senate In response to
this resolution, stated simply the facts in the
case, that be wetnot onlcially advised of the
reported delinquencies, and only knew of

was suggested as required by the re:solution,

The general markets remain in the same
inert condition as for weeks past. Business
men are largely occupied in taking account
of stocks and settling up their alfairs pre
paratory to a fresh start after the holidays,
The annual settlements now in progress in 4

market is not da so comfortable a condition
for borrowers as it has been, and the marked*
