It is not often that papers having &mese to Southern men deal so freely in the plain truth. Tug Bit° winctur. Tnounzts.—We have anew and curious phase of the troubles on our Mexi can frontiers. While our Press have been teem ing with reports of fresh Mexican outrages— and while the President is said to have been concoolog measures for seizlog Mexican terri tory by way of redrese,it seems that our citizens have been actually indebted to the interposition of Mexican. troops for the protection our, own have failed to give theni. We publish in another column a. trauslation of the official correspondence between !lei Amer ican Sheriff of Brownsville and the military authorities of Meiico: concerning this outbreak. We have already stated, what subsequent intel ligence has folly confirmed, that Cortinas, the leader of the invaders of Brownsville, is °native of Texas, though of Mexican origin—that he is at the head of a gang of marauding desperadoes, and that the motive of his assault was revenge against the sheriff and people of Brownsville for alleged injuries sustained at their hands. It now &pincers from this correspondence That the American sheriff, when the invasion fire, occur red, applied to the Mexican military anti:writhe across the Rio Bravo for aid—on then ground that there were no American troops at hand, and the people were unable to protect themselves. The application was at once responded to in the most friendly manner by the millitary comman der at filatamoras, and 100 well armed Mexican soldiers were dispatched to the relief of the citi zens of Brownsville. We also learn that the. Gov. of the State et Tamaulipas sincerely and warmly commended the action of the military commander at Matamoros. All these documents bear evidence et sincerity and of friendly feel tog. Since their date we have the statement from reliable sources that this hody•of Mextran soldiers dispatched from elatamorae to Browns- Ville, went out freely to fight 0:4 battles of the distressed American citizens, end lost some four or five of their number in killed and wounded. It . seems, therefore, that the American au thorities of one corner of our Union have been obliged to call upon Mexico for military aid to suppress an insurrection within United States territory, and Mexican troops have entered our territory, upon an invitation, and fought for that purpose! These facts have a peculiar sig nificance at the present time, inasmuch as Mex ico have been denounced by on ale country with out a Governmeut,a country given up to anarcny, where the interests of her own citizens na well as thosflef foreigners are basely and cruelly out raged. And. note, in treating with Mexico, Mr. Buchanan de - reeierritory and 'then a protect such transit routee as she u to Lt. The,e demands aro made inJ face of the facts published almost doily, from one cad of the country to the other, that we are unwilling or unable to protect any one of the routes through our own territory, and that with in our owe freed cry, ceanneoeirig with Browns •itie acid passing along he 'rola. boiders, througb Arizona, New Mexico and Souses, -through, Utah, to Waphington Territory on the pacific, there4s now ragin"g a more disgraceful warfare, between Indians, half-breeds, Mexicans, lhafers, cut•throats, and robbers of every grade, Mor mons and whites, than ever disturbed the soil of Mexico. It is within the bounds of truth to say that, iu this murderous and ruinous conflict now raging within the borders of the United States, more lives have been lost, and more money spent, within the past year, than have been sacrificed in Mexico, in spite of her attar any, within twice that length of time. Before Mr. Buchanan determines to seize Mexican territory in revenge for the Brownsville rebellion , we hope he will have the common politeness to thank Mexican military authorities for having sent troops to protect American citi zens on American soil.-21's F. The action of our County Convention of July last and of the State Convention of June oth is to us conclusive proof of the correctness of thin supposition; and ifArther evidence were wanting; we find it in the tone of popular sentiment which comes to no from all corners of our mountain county, and in the almost unanimous utteranco - cf the Poo ple's press inevery quarter of the Commonwealth.
