CAULSON.—We have noted, hitherto, Without tactixtment, the fact that various Repub lican and Opposit lon county conventions through out the State have paseed 'violations in favor of Gen. Centime as a candidate for the Preeiden ey ; but these avowals of a preference for that gentlemen have now become eo numerous, that it is butlitting we should give them more par tinier attention. The Republican COMM:MO[I in Union county, held last-week, adopted the following resolnliona "That Gen. Cameron is our first choice for the Presidency of them United States, believing that he would manage the affairs of the nation with economy, restore prosperity throughout the country, and dispel the dark cloud which has been hovering over us. "That if Gen. Cameron should be placed in nomination for the Presidency by our party, we firmly believe that he would carry the Keystone State, in 1860, by an overwhelming majority." la Carbon county a similar resolution was adopted: Resolved, That we have undiminished attach ment for, and increased confidence in our die tinguished Senator, lion. Simon Cameron, of whom Pennsylvania is justly proud.. She points with pride and gratitude to his long services in her behalf; (obis fidelity to bet interests; to the tried patriotism, eminent ability and enlarged statesmanship which have ever characterized his public acts. That, as a small measure of oar recognition of his public worth, and of his emi nent fitness for the high trust, with pride and enthusiasm we name him as the first choice of Pennsylvania, for the first office in the gift of the people of the nation. The Lebanon County Convention passed the following resolution: Resolved, That we regard the Senatorial course of Gen. Cameron as eminently praiseworthy, and that we recommend him for the Preeldency, in the confident assurance that his life-long iden tification with the interests of Pennsylvania will ensure our succeas in this State. In Centre county, the nominating convention, after passing a resolution in favor of A. G. Cur tin for Governor, gave expression to a very de cided preference for Gen. Cameron for President; and in Northumberland resolutions were adopted in favor if_Cameran for President and Taggart for Governor. Most of these conventions, in order to nave the necessity of holding other con ventions, also elected delegates to the State Con vention of 1810, which will give force to their expressions of preference. In addition to these counties, resolutions in favor of Gen. Cameron for President have been adopted {in conventions or county meetings in Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon, Cambria, Clear field, York, Dauphin, Snyder, Clinton, Lycom ing, Montour and Westmoreland; and in other counties, such as Crawford, Erie, Indiana, Schuylkill, Luzerne, and the mining counties generally, such indications of preference have been given as to leave no doubt that the prevail ing sentiment there is the same as in those we have before named. These counties embrace a very large portion of the State. There canba no doubt that Gen. Cestwiton is the preferetioe of the united oppo sition in all the central and mountain counties, 'and throughout - the mining region ; while in the western. and extreme eastern. counties, all the expressions yet made are in his favor. Many counties have yet to bold their nominating con ventions; and the current has been besting BO steadily in the General's favor, daring the last two weeks, that it is bat reasonable to antici pate a general adoption of such resolutions as we have quoted. There are, of course, many excellent oppo nents of the administration who have other preferences, and ae the time for selecting a Pram 'dentist candidate draws near, these preferences will c rystallize nod assume a tangible shape; but the evidences of the popularity of Oen. Cam axon are now clear and numerous enough to en feint) the conviction, both inside the Slate and out of it, that the delegation from Pennsylva nia to the National Convention will be almost, if not altogether, a unit in his favor. It is too soon, of course, to be arranging the Presidential programme, and we have no aims in that direction ; our purpose is simply to groups together the developements already made in this State, and direct attention to their signlfk cance. BEDFORD Courrrn—At a meeting of the oppo eltion in Bedford county, held last week, the following reeolution was unanimously adopted Resolved, That the ability, zeal and fidelity to the interests of Pennsylvania which have mark et the course of our Senator in Congress, the Hon. Simon Cameron, justly entitle him to the confidence of his fellow citizens. Throughout his entire public career he has approved himself it Bound, able and eminently practical Matte man. We therefore cordially unite with our sister counties of the State, in expressing a de cided preference for the lion. Simon Cameron as our. next nominee for President of the United States. The men, on their side, are hopeful and resolute:, and many of them avow themselves ready to endure temporary privations in-the hope that they may thus obtain what they look upon as a permanent advantage and as a right. Thereare cases, however, where enforced !dictums, with its concomitant of want, begins to make itself fell; and, strong as is the senti ment against the declaration, no doubt there arc mi laity who would gladly resume work if they had the opportunity brdoingeo. The laborer' espe cially—not aerially a very provident class—begin to complain not only of the irksomeness of idle ness, bat of more pressing wants; and It is no uncommon thing to hear, as one passes a group at the corner of the street, each expressions as Jul' tired of kicking my heels about in this way—how long is iL to last, I wonder?" or, ..Well, I can't stand this much longer," and the like. But if the men are resolute and hopeful, the masters are reported to be firm and united. A LOST Cahn PLISISITINO ON TUE WOODS. About a fortnight ago a bright little girl, six years of age, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. King, living about four miles from Kali* Putnam county, in this State went with her -mother to vitit a neighbor, and while there accompanied the neighbor's children to carry water to the father, working in a field. On the way some childish quarrel occurred between them, and their little visitor, vexed and grieved, steeled to return to the house, which was in view. Prob ably reflecting more upon the wound which her feelings had received than of the path which she was following, eke strayed away into the woods and was lost. The other children returned in doe season, but Mrs. King was only surprised that her child was not with them. Search was immediately commenced, but when night came and the little one wan not found the anxiety of the mother became terrible, For nine days the search was continued amid the utmost excite ment, and without cessation, daring which time the soul-harrowing suspense of the parents, and especially the mother, was indescribable, and she would neither rest nor refresh herself. On the ninth day the little one was found, lyisig over two logs—where it bad fallen, too weak to proceed, within two miles ,of the spot where it was laid. seen—dead. It had removed all its clothing, and when found was quite naked, its bonnet hanging on a limb, and its dress lying in a little play-house which she had built to while away the lonely hours. It had died within a few hours of the time at which it was found. The spot had frequently been passed, but the most of the search had been extended too far. When the dead body of the child was taken into the presence of the mother, and the hope which had sustained her throughout the search was gone, her reason tottered and she became insane. ColustOst (0.) Stare.mann. Now 11.111.110ite ROVTZ TO TOE Wits, —AnOther railroad line from East to West, through the in terior of Pennsylvania, is about to be opened. The New York Tribune says that it has undoubt ed information that Mr. Cullen, the President of. - the Reading Railroad Company, has consented to enter into an arrangement by wbtob in a few days, through passenger and freight trains will be running overbis Lebanon Valley Branch, and East Pennsylvania Railroad, from Jersey city and Ellzabethport to all points in the West and Sonthwest. This is a new route and certainly a very important one to New York. The Tribune adds: It ie 145 miles nearer to Cincinnati and St. Louis by this route than by either the New York Central or Erie, and 27G nearer to Cleveland and Chicago, and points west thereof. Over it passengers may be taken to the for west without change of care, and freight can be looked up in the cars at Jersey City or Elirabethport, and landed at Cincinnati, St. Louis, Cleveland, Chi cago and lowa City without break of balk or transhipment. As this new route will be open in a few days for through business, we shall very soon see what effect it will have upon our two great New York lines, the Central and Erie. In winter, when these more northern routes are more or less blocked up, as they often are, this new line, (like the Baltimore and" Ohio rood,) will be clear from such obstrueliens. As Mr. Cullen has ooneente,d to make the desired ar rangements, we presume no more 'will be heard of the Allentown and ..Auburn road as a rival line to the Lebanon Valley branch of the Reed iog road, for the through business, and for the coal trade of the main road. Aileron' Arsoue.—Between 12 and I o'clock this morning the heavens were illuminated with a display which was in no respect inferior to the magniticient phenomenon of Sunday night., In the north, northeast, and northwest, at first, there was a light like that of the full moon, and showing everything in the streets as plainly. This light seemed to come in wavee, differing in magnitude, velocity, and color. At some mo ments the sky was as deeply crimsoned as on Sunday. At I/ o'clock the strange light shone from all points of the compass, and the deep crimson cloud floated in the south as well as In north, and the magnetic beams radiated from the zenith, and every moment woe unlike the last. A chilly wind was blowing from the north. We learn from our exchanges that the Aurora of Sunday night extended as far south as Alex andria and Washington, but not to Richmond. We hear of frost on that night in Michigan and Illinole, as wall as in the Eastern States. —N. 1' Trib.
