Sohenley, whose return to the British Parliament, as 'liberal znesaliter, was duly announced a 'hart time ago, was ejected from his seat, in connection with Mr. Leathern, on account of the bribery prac ticed at their election. The Timer, in moralising on this result, draws a soriy picture of the mode in which parliamentary elections are conducted . throughout the kingdom, and intimate, that as Alta ousted members were novices, "their agents rather overdone the thing in the way of bribery." Oar captain plumed himself on hie sharpness whoa on this aide of the Atlantic, but it seems after all he has proved to be a moat wretched bungler. The greater portion of the nue article ie devoted to Mr. Leatham'e ease. The Captain is dismissed with a line or two, merely announcing his ejectment, showing that his position in English politics is extremely in . eignificant—tbat of a mere voter who asks no questions and is "always on hand for a dirk!. ion." We quote a portion of the article in the Timer : "Show us a country where each candidates, each agents, each electors, such electors' wives, are things of every day occurrence, and we will chow you one that may defy all the world. Adel e's from Vera Cruz are to the 4thinst., and from the city of Mexico to August 1. The American legation was temporarily be journing at San Andros, whare'Mr. McLane Wee awaiting a reply to his recent dispatobee home. The report at Vera Cruz was that Preeident4u chanon had insisted that Juarez should dispose of Lower California to the United Staten, but that Juarez persisted in hie refuel to alienate any portion of the territory of hie country, as such an net on his part, even had he the power to perform it, would be suicidal to hie cause. Vera Craz is reported to be unusually healthy (or the eeason. There were mama cases of yel low fever and oomito in May, but tho eickness is said to have since abated rather than increased, which is quite animal. Ordere were reported to have been received from hie government by the .British admiral at Vera Cruz to postpone for the present any coer cive Measures against that place, previously de termined upon, for payment of British olaime against the government of Mexico. From the capital the advices appear to be of 601X10 interest, but the correspondence and other sources"of information are so full of rancorous partisanspirit that is exceedingly difficult to get at that which alone is of real importance, the ex ult, truth with respect to the condition of affairs. Setting aside the verbose garniture of the vari ous letters from the Mexican capital it appears that President Mtr . amen and the clergy have again come to au understanding; that Zulbaga, whom theecolesiastloshad net up as hie rival, has been withdrawn; that Zaloaga has also disap peared from the field, and that in Miremon now °entree the entire power of hie own partr, the church party, and in fact all opposed to Juarez. It alas appears that the ecciesiastios design to to the ly or ient, epi terals I that be is to Id of ty of Art to In at 'm the war /dent Vera , bat tober, t pow mated towed nazis the aet's fisca- . digging up Indian g for the lake of the earthenware and piedras de melee generally found therein, took it into hie head to dig a little deeper, which brought him to the real grave, where the body is deposited in a coffin of rudely-fixed stonee, and there be found the skeleton of the deceased together with a beautifully-worked 'bat' In gold. Since then it ban been ascertained that every •hnace containe gold images is more or leme number, the earthenware and other articles having been buried only half way down, and this explains why op to the present time so few of the romaine of the bodies bad been found on the graves. One man took out of one grave, in one day, $l,OOO worth of things, among whloh were three gold plates of the else of deeert plates and the Oh:hated of a etout tin plate, an eagle of the eine of a open, and many other animals and ineects beautifully manufactured. "This is the rlebest grave that has been found as yet, but none have been opened that have not produced something. The old man who made the discovery kept Me eecret for some time, and it is reported that he succeeded In accumulating about four thousand dollard. The place where the first discovery was made is called Bugaba, attested on the other aide of the river Piedra, on the road toward the Costa Rica frontier, but se the whole of the f00te).,..`-.Cordillerae, in Chiriqui, is full of • Make,' It will take many thousand people during many yaare before the whole sill be dug up. The finding of no mucb worked up gold In the thunoas ' in a positive proof that the country must be very rich in geld, and I have no doubt that as noon an the above facts become known to the real miming public, rich and exteneivo deposits of the ore will ho discovered. The rivers are now very high, and most of them impassible, owing to the rains, otherwise' more persona would have started for the dig gings. People who come to work here must ez peel to rough it, live on taaajo (dried beef) and plantains, and 'deep in the open air; it Is no;easy matter to dig holes eight or ten feet deep and remove large stonee." Tux result of the recent Kentucky Election settles that John J. Crittenden cannot be re elected to the Senate. And though his term happily does not expire until 1861, that date must eee his withdrawal from Senatorial life forever. Ills retirement enoceding those of Bell and Houston, which have already taken place, will bear away the loot of the old elements of the body. There will be nothing left that, 'aridly speaking, can be called veteran Statesman ship. Senator Pearce of Maryland, Senator Simmons of 'Rhode bland, Suitor Cameron of Pennsylvania, and Senator Yuleo of Florida will be the only four men in the Senate who were them twelve years ago, and of those, only the Bret has remained continuously since. Taw Zealct Coiiissitscia....-It la begiuni4to appear, somewhat earner thin weekpected, khat the coneequericesef therpeacilietween-the late belligerents will be. vary-important. They - are about to make a treaty at Zurich; bat England and Russia hint that itis by no means certain that they will ratify, in a European Congress, • whatever France and Austria may esp.& to do concerning Italy. This is plainly the meaning ' of the language uttered by the InacaUle Ruin, which speaks of a congresa as not to be avoided by the late belligerents; while England, on the other hand announces in Parliament that it is by no means certain that she will join the Con- I grees at all, and at any rate will await tberesult of the Zurich conference before deciding. This , is se much as we can make out from the speeches of Lords Russel and Palmerston, which are di .plomatio and equivocal to the last degree. It is curious to find the organs of the Russian and English Governments, lately so inimical, utter ing the earns tones. Ennis, during and before the war, was the fast friend and ally of France and constantly menanced both England and Prus• sits, in case of their interfering in Italy. Now, however, when the Emperor of France Beams to have made Austria his friend and ally, Russia grows 0001, apparently dissatisfied with the ni -1 salt of the contest. What is equally odd, is, that while the• Empe ror of France has given orders to reduce his army and navy to the peace footing, the Englieh Parliament is entirely in favor of continuing the warlike preparations for defence, and Lord Pal merston eaplicity says; that he does not think it possible for England to enter into an agreement with the other powers for the arithmetical reduc tion of the military and naval- , establishments, her pocitlon being totally different. What ef• feet the late order of Napoleon, in regard to bin forces, may have upon England, remains to be seem We incline to believe that, however touch the British ministry protein, to agree to disarm, they will not, and in fact, dare not arrest the preparations. BOM6of the estimates may be cut down, and the work - ostensibly dapped, but it will go on nevertheless. Both Palmerston and Russell would like to trust the Emperor of the French, but evidently are afraid to do so. His extraordinary move ments defy all calculation, and breed suspicion everywhere, whieh was precisely thee:me with hie 'uncle. That great man made war and peace so uncommonly that all stable govern:heats felt uneasy and discontented, so that when he would fain have been at rest to one believed hlm sin cere. Wo do not mesa to allege that the present peace is made for the purpose of deluding Eu rope, but the suspicion in regard to France, as at present managed, is natural and universal. Paul Daily Timer of the 10th lost, says: "We cannot say that Limes are any easier in this oily than they have been for the past year. We incline to think matters are worse. The incoming of the crops will give us enough to square up aux home affairs, but there will be but little to spare for paying our Eastern debts, and yet with economy. and industry much can be accomplished towards bal ancing the books. Some of our capitalist/ who have not been particularly affected by the hard times, continue to invest their means in large and costly buildings, knowing that material and labor are much cheaper now than they will be for years to come. The consequence is that SL Paul hue a lively appearance, and this appear ance has a telling tiled upon those who visit as, for, they argue, if shrewd business men have confidence in Bt.
