According to the information received by our contemporary, arms, amniuni tton and funds have been provided, the latter chiefly in this city, where also reside (bo chiefs of tho expedition and whence are issued all in structions and orders. Tho arms and ammuni tion, and generally the materials for war, are stored in Southern cities. Tha sohemo Is said to be quite ripe, and the promoters of it only wait until their agents in Cuba have prepared for the filibusters an easy access to the island. The points of embarkation have been agreed upon, and when final ‘instructions are received from the coveted Island, the signal will be given for the sailing of tbo expedition. Bat for the fact that there were those among os a few years ago who were foolish enough to believe that tho Cubans wero ready for revolt, and that a few hundred Americans, undisciplin ed and untrained, could turn the scalp in favor of tho revolutionists, and that that race of un wise men is possibly not yet extinct, we should totally disbelieve the information received by the Courier deg Flats Unis. Nor do wo now folly credit it. AHboogh our contemporary is posi tive that its information is true and genuine, wo must believe that it baa been imposed upon! U seems incredible that any considerable num ber of men, with the light of history before them, ean entertain the idea that one thousand or fire thousand men, without knowledge of the arts of war, without military training or dis cipline, without expericnco in military co-opera tion, aud cut off from all supplies and munitions other than those they taks with them, can seize upon Cuba in tbo face of its navy, its fortifica tions, its Large, well disciplined and well sup plied army, and its royal population. If there ported organization has intelligent chiefs, they must know (hat In sending such nn expedition to Caba, they arejseudtoglhem to tho same cer tain disaster and destruction that befel the Lopez expedition from the first hour of its landing. Tho acts of tho Adminifctralion at Washington, tbo language of its friends in Congress and of its newspaper organa make it any thing but im probable that the embarkation from our ports would be easy enough. Bat they rn&ko it 10l- 1 erably certain tbatiho Caban authorities would have little care to show forbearance to tbo in vaders, bat would very summarily dispose of them. Filibustering in Cuba woold bo a mar- ! vellously different thiijg from filibustering in 1 Nicaragua, os any men who arc foolish enough to try the experiment would painfully discover ! A'.' The error, tbo disease, or the vice of of inebreity, call it what we may, sweeps away thousands and tons of thousands; and while we believe that harsh and tyrannical means, in tended to accomplish reform or crime, are rarely effioieol, we cannot toe earnestly oommend mor al, kindly, conciliatory and persuasive, and es pecially the organization of Homes or Asylums where the habitual drunkard, whether rich or poor, may be treated according to the particular phase of his infirmity, and thus be afforded a chance for a thorough restoration. Rarely do we meet on insane |«rson in whom we do not find on irregular sppetiie, indigestion and constipa tion. Not unfrequently these symptoms exist for a long time previous to the developcment of mental disturbance, and are, as vPo bolieve, among Us primary causes, which, with early at tention and proper treatment, might be removed, and save the individual from becoming an un fortunate victim to this dire disease. Many de lusions and hollaeinalionß, so common in a largo class of the insane, such as the presence of poison in food and drink, tho sin and evil con sequenoes-of eating, the existence of snakes and other reptiles in the stomach, may, and undoubt edly do ariso from some peculiar morbid,.lrrita ble state of that organ. Nothing tends so much to ohangs tho stomach from a normal to an ab normal condition as the present dietetic habits of our people, and, as the brain la in immediate connection and sympathy with the stomaoh, its effect upon tbo former is obvious. Many a headache and sleepless night, many a fit of sick ness culminating in hopeless insanity, have their root in the quantity and quality of a lato supper.” Sale or tub McDohougu Estate.—Tho prop erty of the McDonough estato accruing to tho oily of Baltimore, and situated in the sooond and third districts of New Orleans, was sold at anotion in that oily on the 17th inst.
