Rippoy moved for « new trial and in arrest of judgement. Sunday Liquor Seliing. —Lewis Rinehart, jof the First Ward, indicted for the above offence on oath of Wm. McDonald, The jury agreed to a verdict of guilty without leaving their seats. Gambling Home —Tho second case against Lewis Rinehart then come on. This was an in dictment for keeping a gambling bouse. Thos. McDonald, prosecuting witness, beiog sworn, testified that he saw, on the Glh of November persons playing at cards for money in the house of Lewis Rinehart. The amount of the bets was a dollar. Several other witnesses were tried and the jury gave a verdict, as before, of guilty! and Rinehart was sentenced to pay a fine of $5O. And. Graham, of Allegheny, pleaded gnilty to assault and battery upon Hugh Meban Fined $5 and costs. John Davie pleaded !guiUy to the charge of affiliation—prosecutrix, Elizabeth Preston; must ?*y $2O for support of the child and the usual expenses. Capt. James McKee, of canal boat Detroit, indicted for assault and battery, on oath of David Adams, who keeps a grocery store at the foot of Fifth street. On the morning of the 19th Ootober the prosecolor went to the canal basin to buy some potatoes; went on board tho “De troit,” and there haviog got into a dispute about the price of the potatoes, (he lie passed between them. Capt. McKee seized Adams and struck him. In the melee Adams lost $25 out of his pocket. Verdict not gnilty, defendant to pay the coats. Councils op Allioiibiit.— At 10 o’clock yes terday (Friday) morning, the new councils of Allegheny City met in joint convention, and Alderman Hays in the presence of Ibis body administered the oath of office to the new Mayor, John Morrison, Esq. Thlsgentleman said after the oath had been administered that be felt the importance and responsibility of the position and would discharge Us duties to the best of bis ability.
