Dr.grauctrio FAIN Ire Now Caaror..—We are
indebted to J. Sell. Jennings, editor of the Coal
Cily Dm, for the following particulars of a de
structive fire in New Coale: •
Now Cairns, Oct. 10. 1658.—A fire broke out
this morning in the old building back of Allen's
Tobacco Store, 'beat five o'clock, and destroyed
the following buildings and property: William
Dickson, livery stable, loss $500; W. 11. Rey
nolds, stable, $200; Pardee & Fowlers, stable,
$250; Wm. Moore, Esq.,
two stables, $300; Al
vah Leslie, stable, $200; John G. Maitland,
warehouse. $600; P.. M. Allen, tobacco and ma
chinery, $350; W. G. Warnock, gas fittings. Ste
s7so;carpenter tools, &a, $100;
Girard P. Hickman, ten-pin alley, $600; Wilson
& Wallace, shop damaged, $BO.
John G.- Maillond's brick building, and a
shanty owned by Ram), Wilkins & Co., were
slightly damaged. 1
The total loss will be somewhere in .the neigh
borhood of $4,000, and 'consisted of eight build
logs.
The fire Is supposed to have been the work df
an incendiary. Tho chanties are, however, that
it has been fired by fellows gambling in-some of
the old buildings, as parties have-been often
known to engage in that business in several of
them, heretofore, and a light was seen in one of
the buildings several times during the night. It
was fortunately a still morning, or we should
have bad the unpleasant duty of sending you
-word of the burning of one-half of the town,
instead of these eight buildings. It is also very
astonishing that it spread no farther.—Dirpateh.
A Pllol . M.—The majority of the present
board of County Commissioners are determined,
if possible, to stop some of the leaks in our
County Treasury. We trust that they will not
only hold on at the spigot, but also keep their
eye to the bung. The Republimin party never
bad more sacred duties to perform ; no party
was ever under more solemn obligations to look
after the interests of a people than is the Repub.
Haan party of this county. Every. ledge they
have made to this people, the various officers
elect are bound aorupulooslv to perform, ' and
they will perform them. The Commissioners
began yesterday. They loaned the following
protest ;
CONWISBION6II3 . Orrice,
Pittsburgh, October 20th, 1858.
We, the undersigned, a majority of the present
Board of Commissioners of Allegheny Connty, do
hereby enter our Protest against the payment by the;
County Treasurer of Warrant No. 1895, issued Oct.
14th, 1858, in favor of John B. Sonnedy, for Two
Hundred and Twenty-Five Dollars, (1225 00,) for
services alleged to have beau rendered by the publi
cation of the Sheriff's proclamation in the True
Press. And we do hereby warn all persons against
negotiating for the said Warrant, as wo Intend to
have the legality of said Warrant tested.

they adjourn till next Wednesday evening.
This elicited considerable discussion, in which

Mr. Harper offered an amendment to the noir
tion of Dr. Keyser, that the meeting adjourn

Da that evening it Is expected that there will be
a large muting of cur citizens.
