FirstDay—The A.R. Synod met at the 6th sited United Presbyterian Church. A highly respect able body of men wee in attendance filling the body of the - church. This was called the.lst Synod of the West, the 2nd Synod meeting in Xenia next week. • Rev. R. A. Brown, of New Castle called the Synod to order in virtue of having held the otice of Moderator last year. Rev. J. T. M'Lure of Wheeling was choosen Secretary pro. tem. On motion (he A. R. Synod adjourned to meet it 2 p, M., in order that the First United Presbyte !ism Synod might organize. The A. R. Synod than adjourned with prayer by Rev. W. H. Andrews of Canonsburg. The United Presbyterian Synod was then con stituted by prayer by Rev. Dr. Findley, a vener able gentleman, one of the oldest preachers in the Synod, who acted as Chairman. On motion, Rev. Samuel Anderson wan cleated Clerk of Synod. Mr. A was not present and Rev. J. B. Clark of Canonsburg was chosen temporary Clerk. The roll of Synod was then made out by the clerk and read. The Presbyteries of Monongahela, Second Presbytery of Ohio, Pres bytery of the Lakes, of Steubenville, of Mans field, of Lawrence, of Westmoreland, of Wheel ing, of Butler, of Chartiers, of Shensago, of Clarion, were represented. The names of the various delegates—ministers and elders, having been reported, Meagre. Wishart and French were nominated for permanent chairmen. Mr. Anderson euggeeted the name of Rev. Mr. Dick of Kittanning. Dr. Kerr of the UnitedPrabytericre (newepaper) was also nominated. Mr. Weand less nominated Dr. Finley. After some -die mission all the nominees except the two nominal. ed (according to usage) by the chair, requested those nominating them to withdraw their names, whereupon Synod proceeded to elect by_ballot. The result was the choice of Mr. Wishart of New Athens, permanent chairman of the U. P. Synod, Mr. Wished received 83 votes, Mr. Frenoh (of Mercer) 70. "Mr. -W. on taking the chair said, that be hoped he was not insensible to the honor nor ungrateful for the distinction the Synod had conferred. He took the place with reluctance and doubt but hoped he should receive the in dulgence of the brethren and the assistance of the fathers in discharging the duties of his position." - The synod then proceeded to elect a Clerk, when Rev. R. A. Brown of New Cagle was unanimously elected Clerk and Rey. J. B. Clark of Canonsburg, Assistant Clerk. On motion of Prof. Finley a business com mittee of six was appointed to report at nort sesaion of 11. P. Synod. The chair then proceeded to appoint . the following gentlemen on the above committee: Rev. W. Findley of Wilmington, Drs. Pressley and Herr of thele cities, Dr. M'Elwee of Frankfort; Dr. Serous of Ligonier and Rev. Brown of Cambridge. Dr. Prissly suggested that 9 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon be the hours for meet ing of Synods, and 12 and 5 the hours for ad journment. - Adopted. Synod then adjourned on motion of Rev. Mr. Carina. ..elfternoes.—The let A. R. Sy nod met agreeable to adjournment, at 2P. M. Opened with prayer by Moderator, Rev. R. A. Brown. Roll waa called by the Clerk, Rev. M'Clure. Lief of absentia was granted to elder M'Cormick during the remaining !session of Synod. ...The first business was the choice of permanent Moderator. The retiring Moderator - nominated Rev. A. D. Clark, D. D., and Rev. D. F. Reed to be balloted for se Moderator of the dynod. Rev. Dr. Clark haling received a majority of votes waa declared elected. Re took the chair and Rev. J. T. DPClure was unanimously elected Clerk. A report was submitted touching the transfer of Madison College, situated in Guernsey county. Ohio. The papers which were drawn up in doe legal form tnumferringthe said college to a number of gentlemen to hold the -tame in trust for the A. it. Synod, were read and the &Woe of the committee through whieh the trans fer was made was approved and committee' dis charged. John Yost of Guernsey county, recently de ceased, left $5O to be appropriated to the aid of indigent students. James R. Moss was appoint ed an agent of Synod to receive the bequest and appropriate it as provided for in the will. The member, of Mt. Vernon A. R. Church petition for transfer to the Mansfield Presbytery. The reason given is that they are at a great distance from the Presbytery with which they are now connected. A counter petition signed by several elders of Martinsburg and Utica con gregations, expressing a desire toremain where they are, was read. These papers were laid on the table for the present. Oa motion of Mr. Brown theA. R. Synod adjourned to meet at 2 P. Id. this day (Thursday.) Immediately on the adjournment of above, the U. P. Synod commenced its session, Mr. Wisbart, miAerator, in the chair. The roll was called and the minutes of the morning session of the U. P. Synod were read -and approved. Prof. Findley, from the business committee appointed in the morning, reported. The own -mittee agreed to recommend the following Items for consideration: Ist Reports of Presbyteries. 2d.
