The whole machine is cast iron, with the ex ception of two steel adj listing ‘ springs—and these are not tho trifling mils of wire which we bare seen in other machines, but. straight and strong, doing their duty exactly, and not liable to break, ox-get out of order. Tho ear of corn m dropped into a spout by the left hand of the operator,—the right being employed in turning the, crank; it is caught between, a .pair of wheels, one of whiob, the feeder, turns slower than, the thrither f which moires considerably tspter. This latter is a oog wheel, the cogs be? ing long, and conoaroon the outer surface, so as to half.eneirde the cob; the ear of oorn is caught between this shelling wheol and the: feeder; while the quick revolutions of the 1 for mer threshes off the cbm from qne half tho cob, Uie feeder forces down the oob into a corres ponding pair of wheels, the thresher being on the opposite , side, hqweter; as the cob leaves the upper feeder it finds itself grasped by the nether and the operation' is finished. The threshers are set in a singular “anivenal motion pinion,” and as the oob Is forced down by the | foeder, the threshers accommodate themselves to thesizeoftheoar, thebefore mentioned springs keep them up to their work. • The power required is but light, ono hand turning the erank easily, : while the other feeds. c v The whole maohine will weigh some 15 or 20 pounds, and is neatly paok-; ad in a box Borne 18 inches square by >8 deep,— The machine will cost, by retail, about $6, and thecapacityof the smaller size is about 8 bush-, els of shelled com per hour. It is easily screw ed to a post, shelf or beam, andis so simple in' Us construction, and withal so strong and utili tarian in its character, that we should judgo one would last one generation. ' This machine will doubtless become an essen tial in every bam. It will be used even where larger machines are required by extensive corn growers, as it is cheap, easily worked, and test enough for all ordinary jobs. Tfee cost of shell ing corn by this machine is about one cent per bxuhtl of shelled com, and ita capacity about 100 bushels per day. Those interested can see an electrotype of the machine in another column of tbo GaseUst or in practical operation at the Novelty Works, Grant street. Gottiko Affair is 3 ail— Four Men Confined in one (7<JZ.—Ou Friday night, at about half-past 7 o'clock, Dr. Geo. AlcCoot, Jr., was called to drees the wounds of one Daniel Maloney, who had been stabbed by a German named Daniel Bwp. Rasp had been committed by Mayor Stockrath andMaloney by Alderman Lewis—the latter for disorderly conduct. These two, with two other “vagi," were all stowed in one cell. As is alleged by Rasp, the three attacked him and he acted in self defence. The others aay they were attacked by Rasp without provoca tion. , He, as it appears, seired afragment of alarge case knife, the point of which had been broken off and the remainder of the blade ground or whetted down to a sharp point, and with this inflicted upon Maloney ten or eleven wounds. Tho severest one is on the right temple and as about three inches long. There are two stabs to the back, one to the right shoulder, two in the left wrist and one in the temple, which re quired dressing. The wounds are severe, but not dangerous. t _ Some of the people thought that Rasp was insanaat the moment of using the knife, but he asserts that he acted in self defence. ■ Auioie’s Casa.—On Friday, parties duly au thorized, exhumed the body of the woman whom Robert Arnold is charged by Mrs. Moore with having poisoned. The stomach was examined by r the attending physicians and showed evident marks of inflammation, but whether produced by poison or otherwise has not, as yet, been sufficiently ascertained to justify an opinion. Therefore the further examination of Mr. Ar nold was postponed yesterday. The Coroner gave Until to-Jay at 7 o’clock for the application of chemical Uais. ... ■ Tilts woman died sod was buried ia January last. ’ This is a very material tariasce from the •latemeat of Mrs. Moore, who spoke of the whole conversation which she had with Mr. Ar nold u haring taken place in March. The C&so might have been, in alt probability, disposed of yesterday by .Dre. Baldwin and Mo- Cook, but the counsel for Mrs. Moore desired ' the opinion of a practical chemist. Mr. Geo. W.
