BOSTWICK, lasrrencorill Manna 0Y Trona, BOBEtt 11. DAVIS, 01110. kunnts.—The Washington correspondent of Bltltimiro Sun writes: "I learn, reliably,. that Judge Douglas will immediately depart for Illinois, for the purpose of thoroughly stumping the State precedent to the Felt election. The key-note to the charac ter of hie canvass may be inferred from the fact that inihe Senate to-day he denounced the..ad ministration for the acts of one of its appointees there; to whont.was attributed full power in re spect to patronage, and also for the alleged co quetting between the anti-Douglas democrats and the republicans." The following is the paragraph in Mr. Doug las' speech which referred to the "alleged co quetting." After charging that Dr. Leib, the leader of the anti-Douglas men, was one of the Karmen Daniles, ho said: "The first time he ever saw Dr Leib was in 1856, when he admitted that he was the man. The fact was ansceptible of proof by hundreds of people in Kansas, and he has admitted it hun dreds of times. It was only an evidence of the vileness of the man's character if be denies that he was the chief officer of the Danites in Kansas, under Jim Lane. This fact was brought to the attention of the Postmaster General before Dr. Leib was appointed, but the Postmaster said that he had promised that Leib should have the office before he knew it. The freesoil party in Illinois have no hope of success in the election except by destroying the democracy, and an alli ance was formed between them and Leib and his bolters." To this charge of an alliance between the Re publicans of Illinois and the dirty Lecompton- Res, Mr. Trumbull responded as follows: "Mr. Trumbull (Ill.) bad no disposition to in terfere with the factions of the so-called Demo cratic party. lie would not have risen bad not his colleague said that the Free-soil party have no hope of success except by alliance with Dr. Leib & Co. It his colleague is laboring under such a misapprehension, he would disabuse his mind. The Republican party intend to heat both Dr. Leib and the Democratic party, togeth er or separately. There is no alliance between them and this man Leib and his associates. The rllepublicans will oppose the Lecompton consti tution and - all other constitutions like it, and he would be happy to unite with his colleague to do it. This Dr. Leib had been active against the Republicans, and he might be obnoxious to the charges against him for aught he knew. This Springfield Convention had denounced the Re publicans in the most abusive, gross language, and falsified their principles. They aro no allies of the Republicans." Still, Mr. Douglas vans not satisfied. Ile said in reply: "Ills colleague knew well that the hope was to get Dr. Leib to take off members from the Democratic party and thus insure a Free-soil victory, and elect John Wentworth to Douglas' place In the Senate. As to who 'Wentworth is, the history of the Muse of Representatives will show. Mr. Douglas charged the alliance, and mild he could prove it, if he could make Senators witnesses." NOW this is all moonshine. Mr. Douglas has suffered himself to be led away by mere fancies. The Republicans of Illinois would be foal if they did not profit by the Democratic quarrel in that State, but that does not make them the allies of either; and as to John Wentworth, he has about as much chance of succeeding Douglas in the Senate as Buchanan has. Out of one hun dred counties in which the Republicans have lately held conventions in Illinois, ninety-five have passed re-solutions in favor of Hon. Abra ham Lincoln for Senator, in case the Republi cans carry a majority in the Legislature, which it is now pretty certain they will do. This very decided expression of opinion is a completo an swer to the fears and predictions of Douglas. We are glad, howeier, that be is going to take the stump in Illinois. That his side of the house will beat the Lecomptonites ten to one we have not . denbte„ tc ':•••;• 1 <.••••• , ; —; • ;• e COr CORILISPoN DEM:S. TWliinnefiratiti County Committee of Corres pondence met on Wednesday; at ll o'clock, at the 81. Charles' Hotel—a large number of mem bers being in attendance. After a short con ' imitation,. the Committee adjourned to meet again on flaturdsi, the 31st of July next, with out tilting any notion whatever, or in any way indicating what the Democratic programme for the coming campaign is to be. it has always beeri the policy-of the Democratic party in this 2"catatty, to permit the domestie dissensions of the opposition to weaken their ranks before placing par own ticket in the field. la the pres ent aspect of affairs, we think the course pur - Fled by our Committee is eminently a wise one. The-Democracy prefer to wait for the moving of the waters, and will step into the pool at the _• ' 'right time to reap:-t he fall benefit of the dis satiefnetions, which are fomenting among their opponents.—Pc4 of Yesterday. ' The Itepabliniita of this - county ought to feel obliged to the Post for its franknes.4 io blurting out the secret of the policy its party intends to pursue. That policy is to "divide and conquer" —if they can. The locofoco county committee . deolineseto Leine a call for a County Conven- lion, just now, because that would dissipate the . hopes of . thofew disorganiaers in our ranks and hind our men together; hence it postpones the call, and in the meantime its enemies will pass through the county urging such disaffected Re piblioans as they can 'find to bring out an ',in dependent" ticket, giving every desired assur ance that the bleat= party will support it; and when"hathis been accomplished, the Port tells 1141 i sill will be issued for bringing out a ' straight locofoco ticket and they will step in to reap the benefit oc„ our , dissensions. It is very kind in the Post, very. "Quarrel," it says to the Republicans, "quarrel among yourselves to oblige us, and divide, and so give ust a chance to comb . In anti take the county offices from you." Now, is there any Republican in the county foolish enough to walk open-eyed into this pit— to swallow this hook without a bait on it—to get up a dissension purely for the benefit of the leading locofocos of this county, the vilest polit ical panderere that ever the eau shone upon ? We do not believe there is. We may quarrel among sweeties when there is nothing to he - • lost by it ; but not -when it inures toile tage of these ftithrtecomptonites who arc, COT ' ered all over with the dirt ailed slime of the vilest and most corrupt administration that ever ex isted. The Republicans of this county love the principles on which their party is based ; and they will not suffer those principles to be de feated because of a little personal dissatisfac tion, here and there, growing out of the late spirited contest over our county nominations. When our enemies, give na notice that they are busily engaged in • fomergling dissatisfaction in Oar ititkke that they may come in at the proper time nnd reap the harvest of success, they af ford-to all holiest and true Republicans the best possible notification that it is time to reprees all mere personal feelings and make ready for a united defence against the hated foe.
