The primary meetings will be held in the too-, chips between the hours of 2 and 6 o'clock, r. at the usual place. of holding ouch meetings and in the Wards, Boroughs and Procincts, between tbe hours of 4 and 8 P. a. By order of the Committee, Roar. P. NEVIS, Chain>mu Tan Corvasonon.—To-morrow the Convention .for the nomination of candidates for County officers and for Congress, will he hell in this city. From the worthy character of all the Delegates elected whose names ore familiar to no, we are prepared to expect a highly dignified meeting and that everything will be done in the meat quiet and satisfactory manner. Of course, there are many candid-at:a destined to disap pointment and we trust they will hear the same philosophically. We have ic.posod upon our selves in the exciting contest through which we hare passed a rigorous rule, to give all RepuL:-- cans who aspire to nomination an equal chance to-be heard in our columns. We have done this, that we might be perfectly free to fight for the ticket nominated, ti lich we intend to do to the test of our ability. We are anxious to see our ticket so overwhelmingly triumphant over the Lecomptonite band of hirelings in this county that the latter shall not he heard of again dur ing the century We trust, therefore, that the Convention will rice us pot, a ticket that we may be able to rally for it with cur whole heart. Givens the true and tried, men to carry the un stained banner of freedom in this great Repub lican County, gloriously. We want men whose republicanism is above question; men. who have stood with us in the thick cod' the fight, when we were few and faint; men who are ready and able to carry our banner wherever honor points the way; men who have acted, voted and walked with us through the dark days 114 well as in the day of prosperity which now opens brightly and serenely before us. Give us such men, gentle men of the COnvention, and in the press er on the stump, if need be, we are for them with our *bole heart and saul. We aro d prepared, however, to expect anything else but such can didates from ouch a convention as is to convene hero to-marrow. MOUE noon Vitt FIVEISNO BOtrfiTY.—We al laded to the course of the Southern members of .Congress, on this qaestlon, a few CIAyS since, and took an advantage of the occasion to express our opinion of their illiberal, bigoted and short sighted conduct. The more we think of this measure, the more are we convinced of its entire impracticability and injustice. If consummated, it cannot fail to give birth to a series of meas ures of retaliation, which will eventually result to the disadvantage of the South. Should such be the case, as we have torture remarked, the South will have itself to blame. What renders the coarse of these Southern men so very repre hensible is that these fisheries aro the nurseries of Amenicon seamen, and have thus benefited the whole country by strengthening our marine service—an arm of defence which the South can not dispense, with more easily then the North. An election is to be held to-morrow for n now Board of Directors for the La Crosse Railroad Com pany, and e are confident that the result will show that the honest men ace in the ascendant, and that the new Board will not only be free from the least taint of corruption, but that they will be prepared to follow up the brigands in the former direction, whose nets have robbed honest men of millions of dollars, and whose whole policy has heaped dishonor upon the good name of the State. It takes some time to track a rogue ; but the clue js now obtained, in the committee's report, and we think before the affair ends, many of the directors who have robbed the La Crosse Railroad Company, will wish that thby had led an honest life. In the providential compensations of life, it is found that even pecuniarily, roguery does not pay a good interest. Before thelapse of another year, we shall have some marked illustrations of tLi great law, in the history of thi. company We have no doubt our Milwuukee cotemporary is correctly informed as to the feeling, enter tained by the "honest men - of Wisconsin, in regard to this disgraceful transaction. Already we find they have sent abroad word of their intention, es we note the following in contemporary Wattitington correspondence.
