Tho roll-was called— as many persons had left on Saturday—to aacer am ir was a quorum present; this being ioand, DrJCooper opened the proceedings with a fervent prayer. Minutes of last meeting were read. Rev. Banks moved a correction in the minutes-fto wit: the erasure of the title “D. D.” on tno minutes, wherever it occurs. This was putio vote and lost. Father Hindman pro posed 11/at those who were absent at the rote on Saturday, as well os those who did not vote, might be permitted to enter their votes any time during the day; also, those who desire it, to enter their dissent. Dr. Beveridge proposed as an amendment that those who were absent ne cessarily, be excused. The amendment was ac cepted ojnd the vote carried. Dr. Wilson wished to have his vote reoorded Jn the negative and his dissent entered. Members absent on Satur day, came forward and recorded their vote. Dr. Patterson arose and said he had learned that Rev. Mr. Smart’s resolutions, offered on Saturday, would bo more agreeable to the A. U. Synod than the preamble offered by the Joint Committee. He moved, therefore, that the pa per of Mr. Smart be sent by a committee to tho A. It. Synod for consideration. Mr. Smart wanted the record of Saturday ob !r Ler ,^f <rif w . e . could mcct on a correct platform. He did not wish anything to go on the record to show that there had ever been a disagreement, » we could now meet and unite cordially. „ ,f* .. ogeT " kad no hesitation in saying that he bad p " r '5 red Mr - amendment to tho report ortho jomt committee. He had Wee ashamed or the dUcuaelon on Saturday, all day. about notbiee. ltev. Thompson asked what assurance we had that if tho paper of Mr. Smart should bo wnt to tho A. R. Synod, it would bo ac cepted. He proposod that tho joint committee’s re port and the amendment of Mr. Smart be sent over, that they mayexpress their preference. Thodiscus t Blon 00 tbo motion of Dr. Patterson took a wido fc-, range. Rev. M'Farland mored to lay tho motion of Dr. 1 atterson on the tabic, which was seconded. Tho motion was declared carried. Division called for. and Mr. M'F.’s was lost. Pros’t M’Artbur was opposed to_;ending tho paper over, because it is not sufficiently definite. Mr. Hindman thought wo ought to reconsider tho action or Saturday before proceeding to send this paper, if wo wish to act or derly. Dr. Cooper stated that Prof. Patterson’s mo tion was to send the communication over for co>i»»d crafion. At this point tho Synod went into commit tee of tho whole, to ascertain tho views of tho House in reference to Sir. Smart’s paper, Dr. Bullion in the Chair. In committee, an interesting and animated discussion, lasting all tho session, occurred, until on motion, tho.committee arose, and tho chairman an pounced that, the amendment of Mr. Smart hav lowing B UDder consideration, they reported tbo fol- Mb. Mr. David Ramsey’s name was inserted in place of that of Mr. Purvis, delegate from Beavpr, on mo tion of Rev. M’GilL Mr. M’Gee read a report from the Committee on S_abbatb Schools. This report was written by Rev. Reed, of Seventh Street Church, and was eloquent in behalf of Sabbath Schools. On motion, was laid jjpon the table. Dr. Bevoridgo, from the minority of a select com mittee appointed to report on tho validity of Roman Catholic Baptism, read part of report. It was a very learned paper, reviewing tbo whole question from tho early ages of tho church. Tho report held that bap tism adminbterod by those who deny the Trinity ought to be considered anullity. In tbo jpldst of- the reading, a very large number (about from the A. K. Synod came into the bousej Dr. B. stopped reading, and tbia largo committee were invited to take tho front seats. Dr. Cooler welooraed the Committee. Dr. J. T. Preitloy ruse and mode a most effective speech. Ho reported that the A. R. Synod bad adopted this afternoon tho first part of the Proomiblo by an over whelming Majority—not ton persons in tbenegativo. Wim regard to the question of “forbearance,” the A. R. Synod had expressed an opinion by a writing which tho committee Of which he (Mr. Preatley) was a member, was instructed to lay before the Associate Synod. Til© paper in question read as follows: [por this matter, see the Report of A. R. .Synod, whore the paper originated.) Whon this papor was read it created a profound sensation os it becamo evident that it was the bond which would unite these two bodies of Christians. A great deal of kindly feeling was manifested through all parts of the house ami loud calls were mado for tho question. Dr. Pressly, of tho A. R. Church, was, however, requested to mako sooio remarks. In eloquent and appropriate language, ho went on to state how much Christian “forbearance” he would ask io the United Church. Ho was satisfied with tho Psalmody, with tho Article oa Communion, and with that on Slavery. Ho smd, “I am on Anti-Slavery man.” With respect to tbjo article oo Secret Societies, ho was not wholly satisfied. Wbilo he would dissuodo men from join ing them, ho did not feol that connection with them should bo a bar to communion. He found no fault with (covenanting, either social or personal. Mi. Waddlo and Dr. Kerr then made some appro. Eriatjo remarks. The question was again called, when ,ev.| Pollock proposed, as an amendment to the paper above, the insertion of the words, “practical conform ity.” [ Voted down. The call for the main question was then repeated with great emphasis, and, beingpnt, was carried by an almost nnanimous vote. We heard about two dissenting voices. The conclusion of the matter was greeted with clapping of bands, which Dr. Cooper' took I occasion to reprove quite gently. Tho Synod then proceeded to other business, but coon adjourned for the night, the min* of ail present having appa rently been relieved by the happy termination. [The state of tbo question, os it stood last night, Thjo first part of the preamble, as adopted by Cho Associate Synod on Saturday, was also adopted by tho A. R. The woman was last seen alive al about eight o clock iu the evening, by Henry Muder, a member of the night police. She was then sil tmg at her own door, and seemed apparently in good health. A short time afterwards she was found dead in her bod.
