Bi*jcy extracts from the debate io Senate on Monday night: Mr. Wade. —When old Moses, enticed a whole nation of Blares to run away, no doubt he was denounced by Pharaoh and the chivalry of Egypt as a furious Abolitionist, bat there were doughfaces then as now. There were some who preferred Slavery in Egypt to freedbm in Canaan, And those he supposed would be called. ‘Na tional men’—not ‘Northern men with Southern principle; l ,' but ‘lsraelites with Egyptian prin ciples ' Mr. Clark addressing himself to the remark of Mr Hammond, that Northern laborers aro slaves, pronounced a glow mg eulogy on New Hampshire, saying he painted in no exaggerat ed colors the state of her society. Mr. Hammond, (S._C.J said he would not reply now to the gentleman who bad taken exception to his remark, but would reply generally at some future time H*e would only now say, that the Senator (Clark) he is depicting a state of things which does not exist. Many of his con stituents., he knows, cannot get a dinner. Mr. Clark— With all due respect to the Sen ator, 1 say they cannot, not only get a dinner, but can give one to the Senator if he wants it; but he would advise the Senator not to talk of anud sills there, otherwise five feet ten inches of ground, if that is the gentleman's height, might be his portion. In tho Revolutionary war, a blacksmith of New Hampshire gave his services to the State His father said to him, “The State is poor. don't ask for your money now. Aye the sum due him stand* on the record in the capital of New Hampshire, so many pound?, pn many shillings, and his descendants arc proud or that record of patriotism. Little did the eon of that man tClark himselfj think he would come into this tienate and hear the Sen ator from South Carolina coll that father a slave. [Applause. ] Mr Toombs, iGa ) said the first speech on Kansas was made on the Hth of December last, and since then the whole business of tho country had been made subservient to it. The opposi tion gentlemen had spoken of their rights, but the country has rights, the majority bavo rights, and duties as well as rights. One of those duties is to expedite the business of the country and mi’h out this faction. Mr. Harlan, (lowa i, would like to know how that crushing out process was to be accom plished Mr Toombs did uot answer. Resi lt or the Sumxir Cocbt-Mahtial We learn from a reliable quarter that the result of the recent Court-Martial upon CoL Sumner, at Carlisle Barracks, was the acquittal of Col, S. upon both the charges preferred against him by Gen. Harney. This result will be eminently gratifying to tho country, as it certainly is to the Array Gen. Harney’s conduct throughout the whole affair has been utterly unworthy of his position, and eminently uobecomiug an officer and a gentle man llis remarks at tho Poit-Leavenworth Court-Martial were gratuitously personal and offensive. an<l this violation of courtesy was greatly aggravated by his obstioate refuMkl to afford Col. Sumner any explanation. The Court deliberated lees than Gfleen min utes before agreeing upon their verdict. Col. Sumner leaves Carlisle this morning for Water town, N. V , where he will meet his family. He is under orders for Utah, and will leave Fort Leavenworth with his regiment on the 10th of May —.V. 1" Times. CrroMPTos in Wucossijs. —The Democracy of Winconsin are nearly unanimous against the Lecompton swindle. Milwaukie is the strongest Democratic city in' the West, and headed by Mayor Cross, the party held a large meeting and passed the most decided Anti-Lecompton resolutions. Benator Douglas was vehemently endorsed. The meeting was stressed by Honi Levi Hubbell and other pro'i.met Democrats.»- A new Democratic paper called the Milwankie Times has been established, which flies the name of a Stephen A. Douglas, for Presi dent in 1860. The Daily Ktvs, controlled by Milwnukie office-holders, supports Lecompton and Buchanan. Washington, March 15.—Several anli-Lo compton Democrats from Pennsylvania—Messrs. Chapman, Owen. Jones, &c., —voted on Friday last to lay Mr. Harris' appeal from the decision of tbo Speaker upon the table, as thoy consider ed that decision in accordance with parliamen- tary usage. On the main question, when it comes up, they will be found, where they always have been, standing firmly upon the platform of popular sovereignty, and maintaining the right of the majority to rule. 1 make this statement not without authority.— Phila. Anti-Lecojipton Victory!!—J lauch Chunk, March 18.—The election for borough officers took place here yesterday, and the contest was spirited. The Anti-Lecorapton ticket was elected by an average majority of twenty votes. Last year the Democracy carried the borough by 88 ma jority. The Lecomplonites called theirs the “people's ticket,” but this even would not save them. The true Democracy of these everlasting bills never will endorse the swindle. Uniform Time in Boston. —The Superinten dent of the Boston fire alarm telegraph has made arrangements for giving uniform time by means of that apparatus, every day at noon, to the peo ple of Bostoo, thus: There are bells connected with the telegraph, which on and after the 22d inst. will be struck one blow at noon. An exact chronometer has been provided which will be placed in the circuit, and which will send the electric curent over the wires, striking all the belts on the instant. A Paris letter says the extravagance in fe male dress at tbo French Court exceeds any thing of the kind ever known there. An income of $20,000 a year scarcely suffices to dressequal to the requirement of the court.. An American lady, whoso husband was rich, determined In outshine the Empress at one of the receptions. Bbe nearly ruined her husband, bat she accom plished her object, and was called the best dressed woman of the party. Tn* jury in the case of Hiram Cole, tried at Cleveland for the murder of his wife, Adelia Cole being unable to agree, were discharged on tho 10th inst. The Platndealtr says: “They stood eight for conviction and four for acquittal. We were informed by several of tho jurors that if the punishment had been imprisonment for life, a verdict would have been returned.” Tns Delaware Indians in Kansas are wealthy. The General Government owes them upwards of a million of dollars, and when their lands are divided there will be abont three hundred acres for every man, woman and child in the tribe. It is estimated by many that tbo average worth of these lands will be $2O per acre. T. B. YOUNG A 00. Railroad Free Pass Bill.-A bill is now under discussion in the New York Senate which makes the giving or receiving of a free pass upon the railroads, a misdemeanor, except tn coses of charity or benevolence, or of employees of the road. Scoau.— A letter from Barbadoes, dated Feb. ji' states that sugar making has become general throughout the island, and the article ta coming to market in large quantities. Dr Most, an Alderman of Lancashire, Eng land has been convicted of forgery of a will and sentenced to transportation. Ten months ago he dined with Baron Martin, of Literpool before whom ho was conTictod. “ 1 month. The Uiyital Abroad.— The revival spirit extends beyond this continent. In England an unusual interest prevails, especially in London. A correspondent of the Presbyterian writes: “Toa will observe that the religions services aro continued, Vih at Westminster Abbey and at Exeter hall, a.,d are still attended by crowds. What good they are doing of course remains But that they form part of a great and glorious work, which is now fairly on foot In this great metropolis, there is no doubt. Since last year the sorveies on week days, as well as as Lord's days,- in school rooms, and lec ture halls, and upper halls throughout tho dark places of London, have been rapidly on the in crease, and mnltitudes for whoso souls no man formerly cared, have been regular brought un der Gospel influences, through means of the city missionaries and their supcrinu-i'ituts. The Reason tiie Democrats were Deflated in New Hampshire. —The New Hampshire rat riot, the leading Buchanan paper at Coocord, frankly confesses the cause of the recent over whelming defeat of Democracy in that Stale, as follows. It contains a significant warning to its Party in other States: “The defeat of the Democracy is sufficiently overwhelming to satisfy our most bitter oppo nents. No one can fail to-see the cause; all ad mit it. The Kansas question hat again crushed u.t with its ponderous blind, unreasoning power.— Before the Lecompton Constitution was brought before the country, our prospects for success were highly flattering; our triumph seemed to be certain; that matter, with the course of the admin istration upon it fell like a wet blanket upon tho rising courage and earnest zeal of our freinds, and FROM THAT DAY WE WERE DOOMED. Who would not be a Farmer'.' —The Louis ville Courier pays the following tribute to the occupation of the farmer:—“ If a young man wants to engage in buisness that will insure him, In middle life, the greatest amount of leisure, there is nothing more sure than farming. If he has an independent turn of mind, let him be a -farmer. If ho wants to engage in a healthy oc cupation let him till the soil. In short, if ho would be independent, let him get r spot of earth, keep within his means, to shun the lawyer; be temperate, to avoid the doctor; be honest, that he may have a clear conscience; improve tho soil, so as to leave the world better than he found it: and then, ifhe can not live happily and die content, there is no hope for him.” Care or Farm Implements.- We believe it mAy be safely asserted that the former in the course of years sustains as much loss in the needless injury and decay of his tools by exposure to the weather during tho season that they are not in ase as he does from the actual wear of them on the farm. The wagon, the mowing machine, the harness, the plow, with the whole catalogue of minor tools and improve ments, we are convinced from actual observa tion, stiller more from the intluence of the atin in shrinking and cracking and in the decay caused by exposure to the wet when not in use than they would were they kept constantly em ployed in tho work for which they were design ed Valley/ Farmer Extension or Lake Navigation.— The t’aua diuna are talking of two grand ship canals, to facilitate the lake navigation—oue to connect Lakes Erie and lluroo, running from Rondeau harbor to the river St. Clair, tliirty miles, and another from Georgian Bay to Toronto one hun dred mdes, twenty-two of whichwill be through Lake Simcoe, to connect Lake Ontario with Lake Huron Engineers have surveyed both and have estimated that the first will cost SR,- OOO.OOu, the other $22,000,000. It is said that the connection of the Eric and Huron by a *hip canal would save millions of dollars yearly iu expediting the commerce of the upper lakes.— The other canal cuts of Falls, and afford? access to the lakes from the St. Lawrence The Sea Serpent —Captain Harrington, of the English ship Castilian, who reported having seen a sea serpeol while on the passage from Bombay to Liverpool, is out with a letter reaffirming his belief in the genumesa of the marine monster which he saw, the sea-weed story to the contrarynotwithstandiug.
