We understated the number of dwellings. There appear to hare been fire dwellings, iwo stables and four horses destroyed. The fire was between Pike Streejt and Foster’s Alley. A one story frame oonse fifjt caught. A stable, on Pike street, another stable on Foster’s alley. A two story I brick building, occupied as a school house, on Piko street, and another building, a one slory frame, |n'the corner of Foster and Market alley, j also burned. In one of the stables, that on Pike I street, iwned by Mr. George F. M’Cready, two valuable horses, belonging to Gipsies, werc_ burned. A'cow, belonging to Mr. M'Cready, was also lenSbly burned before she could bo rescued. In tho stable on Fosier’s alley, owned by Air. •I. White, two horses of little Talue, belonging to a German, named Winsell, were burned. The flames spread so rapidly that it was impossible to savo the horses. Tho Dttpaich says. The frame houses two owned by Mr. White and the other by Mr. M'- Cready—were occupied by a family named Ma loney, and two widows named Nora I)oran and Eliza Shook. The families are very poor, and - barely escaped with their lives. Finly, near East Liberty, caught fire on Monday morning, and, together with tho furniture and $l6O, was en tirely destroyed. The fire was first discovered by two young mea named Krebs, who were at a considerable distance from the house, and when they arrived a£ the scene, the inmates were yet unconscious of the impending danger. The young men broke in the door, and not till then could they aroose the sleepers. It was not done, however, until the whole Jower part of the house was a mass of flame and smoke. Mr. F. knocked out one of the windows, and dropped the chil dren down to Krebs, and the females, (his wife •nd sister-in-law, J leaped from the second story put alighted uninjured. It was a narrow escape from a horrible death. The neighbors made noble but unsuccessful efforts to stay the flames. The bouse was almost new ond was well fnrnish od; it, together with the money, is a total loss being no insurance. The amount of loss is $2,600, perhaps more.
