f tttsmirg| §it^tt£. —■ pears In the Albany Evening Journal. The -report is spoken of os a eery dear and able one. ■ We m&ke the annexed quotations from the ex ; ceftent paper abore mentioned: —■ — in New York city, our Monetary Centre, is defined by the Superintend ent to be, “Uteincurring of the greatest amount of debt payable on demand, with the smallest ' amount of Coin to pay the same with when de manded." The total amount of Specie held by all the banks of this State four months and fif teen days before the Suspension of 1837, was '56,657,000 and the total amount of their imme diate liabilities was $43,974,000 —one dollar in coin, to pay six dollars and seventy-fire cents of demand loans. Disproportionate os this was, and terrible os was the penalty paid for the dis -1 proportion, twenty years >latcr it was found to be still greater! Four mouths and seven days before the Suspension of 1867, the immediate liabilities of all our Banks amounted to $117,- 703,000, while the'total reservo of Specie in their vaults was but' $14,370,000 —one dollar of j Coin to pay eight dollars and eighty-nine cents i of liabilities due on demand. The Superintend ent has authority for his declaration, that the “greatest danger to the Banker os well os to the Public, ties in the large amount of his Deposits —and the least in the Currency he issues.”— The straggle of the New York Cityßanksagainst the suddenly aroused, but irresistible power of the Depositors, lasted not one day. Their down fall taught the political and the finanriaHruth, that a Basis of one dollar of Coin to nearly nine dollars of immediate liabilities, is buto to pro dace a “home panic” of Baok creditors, and a homo demand for Specie. * * * Of the great sacrifices madohy tho Country Banks to maintain the high credit of their Cir culation, the peoplo of the Slate can judge from tho Superintendent’s statement, that in seven teen'dayB immediately prior to the Suspension, they received from itim upon a surrender - of their notes, stock 9 and bonds and mortgages deposited as securities to tho amount of $3,198,- 099, and submitted to a positive loss of half a 1 million of dollars in converting theso into money : to keep up their redemption. . A continuance of that demand for securities for sixteen weeks, would hovfc returned to the Banking Department every note of every Bank in the State, and left' as without a dollar of registered circulation. *■*•*♦** The Superintendent makes the following sug gestions: “first. To allow no more mortgages to be taken hereafterasseourity forcirculatingnotes. Second. To compel every Incorporated bonk to gradually replace its present circulation by notes secured in the same manner as the free bank notes. .X.USOX.^-4,j a.,Hippißaco., XDJTOB3 ihiPßOPßtato'b'S. Very much, in this election,'depends upon the Republicans of the county. If they turn out in anything like their strength, Sir. Scott, our worthy nominee, can be elected by a handsome majority; while, if the masses of them stay at home, he will bo in danger of defeat. Tho* boast of the lotfofocos is that their men will bo out—that they always turn out. Their hope is that they will catch us napping, and slip their man in quietly. Nothing, we know, could gladden the Republican.' hcarts of tho county more, at this juncture, then a decisive Republican vic tory on the_26th. We appeal, then, to every Republican in the county tobe getting'ready for that day.
