DAVIDSON. jVooiL Well to Yoar Tickets* ' AU kinds of smooth-bore tickets will be in' circulation to-day end it will require special watching to aToid being imposed upon by them.<J Look well to your tiokets, therefore; only from tried and known Republicans, and, scrntlnizo closely—your ticket for city officers* and councils. In this fight the watchword is “Give no quarters to-the enemy!” Do not Forget to Vote. Last fall, at the October election, when we wero in the midst .of the monetary panic, hun dreds of onrßepnblican merchants and business men neglected ttyvoto, being too much absorbed in their own difficulties. The troablo of that crisis, h&a passed sufficiently to give them all a breathing spell, and as business in all depart ments is stagnant, they can have no excuse for not Toting to-day. They owe Uto their princi ples to go to the polls to-day, not only to make op for lost year’s lock, bnt to Tlndicate them at a time when, of ftU other times, their vindication will prove of the utmost value. A voice of con demhationof theßuchanonadministrationheart ily uttered -in the present political crisis, will challenge attention, even in that sink of politi cal .iniquity, the Federal City. Now, when wa vering politicians are stretching their necks to catch tho faintest whispers of public opinion for their guidance, Is the time to give them on un mislakable 'indlcatlon of what public opinion la here. Lot the Lecoapioa swiadlebe repudiated to-day by an overwhelming majority. Every te -the city ought to vote to-day.' We ticket, and every eandldoto; on it .desema a,;.hearty -support: Everybodyiin odmils the ability of Mayor shall it-not, vby such a verdict as an approving people know-so well howto give? Not the verdict of a meagre majority, but the tribute of an unparalleled one. Kepudlicans ! We have no appeals to make to you. We only ask you to do your duty—to go, one and all, to the polls,'and vote the straight Republican ticket, without a scratch, and with out a why or a wherefore. The enemy are cal culating on your snplneness and inactivity, and on their, ability to dupe you, by personal ap peals, into supporting some.ono or more of their nominees. Disappoint:theminhu these expec tations. The opportunity of rebuking the Loco foco party for the frauds and deceptions it prac tised in IBSC, r is y d rare one, andmust be well improved. Remember -.Bigler, the recreant Henaiorirom Pennsylvania, and remember, too, that all the candidates on the democratic ticket are put forward os Biolsb mdh; and with tibia, remembrance to stimulate you, give him a crushiogblow that will do ns much credit-toyou as the well-directed blows .of the /‘little giant” have done to Douglas. CUy Treasurer, Extraordinary efforts havo been made by the * democrats to Induce Republicans to votefor Mr. Davitt, for Treasurer. The word has been given out, everywhere, Chat Mr. Davitt is sure ... to bo elected, and the locofocoslnthe county are looking for his election with a hope that could only haTC been stimulated by cooked-up reports sent out from the city. TCfcatciaim has -Mr. Davitt upon Republican votes? -He has - always boon a democrat,- always votes the dear democratic ticket, and sticks by his party under all circumstances, never hesitating to swallow both objectionable men and objectionable mea sures. 77/ never votes for a Republican, and why should a Republican vote for him ? And ■j : why especially, should, such a suicidal act be committed, when we <&trsj , ‘iuch a venerable, - worthy and deserving' candidate as William Eicudaum ? Can any Republican loStupon his venerable grey hajrai.uad reflect upon the long and faultless life he has spent in oar midst, and vote against him T Mr. Davitt is a very respec table gentleman, we admit: b*>» b- * ai»*t '»* *■* srlT should be filled by one well versed In city affairs. The only oandidate who is Henby' Lamdebt, the Republican nominee His experience as a mem ber of,tfie Finance Committee and os amembcr of Councils, trill enable him, if elected, to or ganize the machinery of the offioe Intelligently witboat difficulty. He is a gentleman in every way worthy of Republican support, and we bopo to see him elected by a majority equal to that given for any other candidate on the city ticket. PoPCLAB SOVEB EIGHTY AbASDONED.—ThOBO who can remember the campaign of 185 G will be able to coll to mind the fact that the whole burden of the democratic song was lhafethe peo ple of the territories were sovereign, that they had lb* right to govern themselves os they pleased, on^‘that Congress had no power over them. Jadgd lewis, who presided over the late Buchanan meeting in Philadelphia, took ground directly (lie reverse of this. ' The following is the section of the Act of As sembly, under whieb the election to-day will be held: “That the qualified voters of said city ahail, at the elections for city and Word officers, vote for eaid officers on three separate written or •printed ballots, one of whloh shall be headed *City Officers,’ and shall contain the names of persons voted for.for Mayor, Treasurer and Con troller; one shall beheaded *City Councils,’ and ab*n contain tho names .of persons voted for for Select and Common Council; and the other shall beheaded *Word Officers,* and shall contain the names of persons voted for for Alderman or Al dermen, Judge of Elections, Inspector of Elec tions, School Directors, Constable, Assessor and Assistant Assessors; said tickets shall be folded so that the words, “City Officers,’ 'City Councils,* and ‘Ward Officers,' shall, in all cases, bo ex posed to view, and they shall designate tho par ticular office for which the persons named ore voted for.” Coder this law, but three tickets or slips will be voted to-day. The first will contain the names of all the city officers voted far; the second the names of all tho Cooncilmen to bo voted for; and tho third the names of all the Word officers to be voted for. No separate tick ets or tickets for separate offices can bo received by the election officers or counted by them.— The plan is a good one. It expedites voting, lightens materially -the labor of election Pittsburgh Union has been giving, from time to time, a list of newspapers of the Demo cratic sort in this State, which have taken ground for and against the Lecomptou swindle. We find other papers, in other places, doing the same thing. One paper adds-a third table, in which, after enumerating the pros and tho cons, it adds this: “Off Bote Bides.— Lancaster Intelligencer, Pittsburgh 'J7flion, and Harrisburg Patriot.” We notice this fact only to deprecate the in justice cf such a collocation. The Union was on both sides only until the President’s message come out. The paper from which we take the above table—the Warren Ledger —ought to know that the Union took rides in favor of the Le eompton swindJo as soon as it was sure the Pres ident was there. Bans Statehmts.— The' first weekly state ment of the Pittsburgh banks appears in our advertising columns this morning. Our readers wIU note, on perusing it, that the position of the bonks Is a strong one—a very strong one, and that it compares favorably with any state ment furnished by the banks of any other city. The aggregates of the seven bonks are as follow: LUBZUncS. HEA.VS. Ctrcnlsttaa. OO Bills Dirt! SSJ&3JHB 01 Deposit**... 14&L&04 08 Bp*de. 1,110913 95 Bos other Bank*. 108454 13 Due by dfcrr r-C20,8W 11 Merchants’ and Manutactunebs’ Baku.— This Bank makes public announcement this morning that it is prepared henceforth to pay specie on its liabilities. Its condition miy be seen by reference to the fall statement of its af fairs which appears in our columns this morning. The Union contends that no person is fit for Mayor of this city but a Lawyer. Why, then, did not the democratic party' nominate ooefor.that office' Tex 6t. Louis Scaling Hews, the State organ of the American .party in Missouri, openly ap proves of the armed movements of thefreeState men In Kansas. It publishes an editorial arti cle headed “Civil War in Kansas—lts Righteous ness—Let the People Arm for Resistance!"— The following paragraph is worthy of note: “We turn to the people of Kansas. They have been shamefully deceived and betrayed in regard to the privilege of chooßing their own constitution, and regulating their domestic in stitutions, and they have sworn to resist usurpa tion to the bitter end. We applaud them for it, and Bay, God speed them in the rigbL Let thsm take up onus and defy Mr. Bochanan and his troops, and return shot for shot, os long as they have a gun and a man to fire iL When they fallen in the righteous cause, there will freemen to take their plaoes and cdfPy on tho war." Tht editor of the yews la a Southern man, and was, bo believe, a slaveholder. Tue Democratic (Douglas) papers of Illinois, are ahriking for freedom in bleeding Kansas, like so many calliopes playing Hail Colnmbio. The Illinois Stato Register, tbe central organ of the Illinois Democracy, Is guilty of “Construct ive Treason” in the use of the following incendi ary language: “Tho British Parliament forced burdensome and oppressive laws on the colonies. Tho col onies had no resource left but rebellion. Iu what respect does tbe case of Kansas differ from that of the colonies ? In both instances the laws are burdensome and oppressive, in both instances it is a usurpation of the people’s rights, and in both instances there is but one remedy— rebellion.” iSanfc Statements.'
