The ghost,' dabbled In blood, would, even in the master's chair, shake Its gory Socks, and say by its very looks in spite of passionate 'weever& lions of Macbeth to the contrary, "Thou it is who did the deed." • Mr. Buchanan despised himself most heartily when he penned this: • "In the Kansas• Nebraska act, however, this requirement, as applicable to the whole-Consti tution, had not been inserted, and the Conven tion were not bound by its terms to submit any • other portion of the instrument to an election except that which relates to the "domestic insti tution" of Slavery. . • ' "According to the Vain construction of the sentence, the words "domestioinstitutions" have a direct as they have an appropriate reference 7, to Slavery. But we can leave the party in power to fight this matter out among themselves. Mr. Buchanan has mu* bite a pitiful condl lion. Tut FitaseisL Clusts is ExaLAND.-OCo. PEstioDr & Co.—The fiefdom.' Mira, of Fri , day, has an article upon the present financial crisis in England, in which the following allu sion is made to Abe eminent banking firm of George Peabody . &•Co., of London: "About two years ago, George Peabody, who had for many years been a banker of etalnOciee in' London and had made himself very popular by his hospitality, his public. dinners and his liberality generally, took Mr. &mins Morgan. , of this city, formerly . q. the firm of Howe, blather & Co., and more' ecently of the firm of Beebe, Morgan & Co,:, of Boston, into partner ehip. In the latter concern, Which was then the largest dry goods haute in the United States, with one exception, he realized profits at the rate of $60,000 a year, while he remained cons nected with it. Into the new London house Mr. Peabody put $6,000,000 and Mr. Morgan &bola $200,000 of capital, and thelatter became interested to the extent of one.sixth in the pro fits or losses of the busineas. • It appears that their liabilities are rated at over $10,000,00,0 and that their losses, like those of the Denni s. the Browne and other Anglo-American bankers, have arisen from the temporary orper manent bankruptcy of large impbrting houses on this side. We learn from a private source that Samuel Lawrence, who latelyfailed for two millions, purchased, when in England about, three zonnths educe, 3100 boles of wool, of the average value ofsloo a bale, or $310,000 Mall, which he paid for In drafts on George Peabody & CO. In 1327 the Bank of England saved the Browns from failing by a timely loan of $5,000,- 000, and now it appears that they have assisted Peabody in the same way and to a similar ex tent. But as a general thing that bank has 'shut down' on all American paper daring this crisis, as well as that of 1821. The failure of the great banking house of Sanderson & Sande man, one of the largest private dificount houses in the world, Overend & Gurney of London alone being heavier, was caused by their being compelled by the Bank of England to take up $1,500,000 of the bankvupt acceptances of the Dennistouns. 'From that time the bank relbsed all American paper, and this doubtless is the reason, why Peabody was obliged to solicit spe cial assistance, and the fact that he was able to furnish the solid securities which the bank would require in such a case, shoes great strength. So great was the distrust of Amer ' lean paper during the height of the panic, that a bill of the Baringe for $150,000 drawn upon and accepted by the Browns, and endorsed by another large house, was refused discount, though interest at the rate of 25 per cent, per annum was offered by the holder. One of the principal causes f the embarrass meat of Peabody & Co., wan the same which had dema p n ro . sPabdody&great ha n d k bt g a i h n o eduse of San discounts from the Bank of England on the drafts and bills of exchange of •Dennistourt & Co.; to an, amount exceeding $1,000,000. The Dennis- tours subsequentlyfitiledfornearlysls, ooo, ooo, and as the Bank rigidly requires all bankrupt paper to be taken up immediately by the parties for whose. account it was discounted, Peabody & Co. were unable to take up and withdraw this paper and Lawrence's, and some other amounts similarly situated, without receiving special as ; sistanee from the Bank, Baal or BEAvatt COTISTY.At a . meeting of the Stockholders of the new Bank, located at New Brighton, Beaver county, held on the 16th alt., the following gentlemen were selected as Directori for the institution, vist—Silas Mer .rick„Net Brighton; ,Hezkj.Wilde„,Newllrighten; John Beeves, New Brtghton; Thomas 3rCreery, Beaver; James Duncan, New Brighton; Matthew Gilleland, New.
