WiZaziXOT'S CFI-A-WOES- Wettre frequently naked, what are Wilmot's chances ? We reply by stating that they are decidedly good—and give our reasons for arriv ing at this conclusion. In the/first place, a gentleman conversant with Philadelphia assures us that the Bogus Democratic *oto in that city will fall off about 10,000 tire great frauds practised last year having been discovered, and those engaged in them having been indicted and bound over for trtai. The .'straight-onta" will not poll more than half the vote they did last year, and the majority against Wilmot in the city will not be over sto 8000. Last year the majority against 41,Ftemont Ticket was upwards of 17,000. The tale of the Main Line of Public Works will reduce the Bogus Democratic vote about 5000.. The counties on the line of these works bad been colonized by Irish voters, to the full talent of pop from Ohio anduther States where the votes were not required. collector for. one of the Philadelphia papers visited 88 counties in Northern, Western and diddle Pennsylvania—and in those counties he believed Wilmot would receive a greater vote than that given Fremont. There is perfert har mony prevailing everywhere. The present hard times will open the eyes of 41 least 20,000 voters who were cheated and de, fis . l - ided out of their votes by the great swindle of .4.0L1{, DALLAS, AND THE TARIFF OF 1848," :oonpled with the Buchanan doctrine, which we ;are now experiencing, of Slave Wages .ten cents a day for freemen—and scarcely any workat that. A large number of them who have been cheat ed by the leaden of the Bogus Democracy, and Who do not Ilse to vote for Wilmot will stay at home sooner than vote for Packer, and be cheated again. Al:MEl—there are thousands of voters who were led to believe that James Buchanan would favor Free Soil in the Territories;-but since he has embraced the Ultra Calhoun doctrine on the subject of Slavery—a doctrine which if carried 'out would re-establish Slavery In Pennsylvania —they have become disgusted with this Slavish Bogus Democracy, and will cast their votes for Wilmot the great advocate of • Freedom in the Terrrlteries of the United States. Per these reasons we ere decidedly of the opinion that if the thinking people will do their duty and vote, Wilmot be triumphantly elected Governor of Pennsylvania to-day. I :~- ~-~ The Sheriff, in his proclamation, has named • the old place as the place for holding elections In the Flftli Ward. The Ward has been divided by law intotwo precincts and the School House ",itt, esch appointed as the place of holding the election, and it is not in the power of the Sheriff to make any change therein. It is his duty to specify in his proclamation the places for hold the elections in the several districts: but if ho falls, through ignornoce or otherwise, to name the dace fixed by law, his failure so to do does not affect the operations of the law. The peo ple can only vote at the places fixed by law-- tile School House in each precinct—atid any vote cast elsewhere mill be lost. 1 ' County Contnaltsioner . . [Special Correspondence of the Pittsburgh 6urette.l HAaniescao, Oct. 10. 1867 Editors Gaulle: There has been nothing done in the Senate today save a political debate which sprung up on a series of resolutions offer ed by Mr. Brown, of Philadelphia, relative to the powers of the General Government over the currency. To these resolutions Mr. Coffey, of Indiana, offered an amendment looking to EMl crease of specific duties in order to protect the -great manufacturing interests of Pennsylvania. Mr. Browne In the discussion interrogated Mr. Coffey relative to the opinions of Judge Wilmot upon protection. In reply Mr. Coffey read the letter of Mr. Wilmot to David S. Brown of Philadelphia. Mr. Myer explained that Mr. McKay, of North Carolina had, in 1846, offered to increase the duties upon coal and iron ten per cent. if Mr. Wilmot could get one-half the Pennsylvania delegation to vote for the bill.— Mr. Wilmot tried to do so, but in vain, and Judge Wilmot voted for the bill because it was the best he could get. Mr. Taggart showed that Packer had voted in 1852, whilst a member of the Serst, for a bill cqutaining a provision authorizing a 1 liquors to I , be seized upon a warrant issued tip n the oath or affirmation of any two citizen , wherever found, unless in possession of persons specially appointed to sell, and that he also voted to pro. hibit the sale of liquor in less quantities than a barrel, and that now to insure his election he had become a nirinber of the liquor league in Philadelphia. The Senate having adjourned un til 'Monday, even if the House gets through with the bilito-night. The Legislature cannot adjourn until Monday. The test vote, at least that which was looked upon as the most important which has yet been reached, was that taken upon the first section of the bill upon second reading. It passed by a vole of 52.. ayes to 42 nays. . The hill has, hosiever, undergone such trans formations, amendments and substitutions that ii Can. scirely be'reeignized at present.
