A tank and water .affair 'under this caption Appeared yesterday, signed by the democratic oonnfycotumittee. It is about the weakest thing ..,of the kind that ever had names affixed to it.— hff, rith this precious piece of nonsense: • !lour own Democratic County Convention hunot been negrectful pf its duties. It has nominated for your support, at the next October Electichi, a full ticket for Legislative and County Offices. T.le cam/dater are .i.ediciriusly d i stributed • trough A. entire county, giving to each section as Julia magenta non ac practicable." . • . A t ha Papidenee which could assert this is kisly astonitthilfg. Near!y all the candidates on that ticket are from the city and its neighbor hood. Two or. three from the country are scat taredamong the nines, but scarcely enough to swear by. The Convention was more con cerned about distributing its candidates among Catholics, Infidels eel renegade Know-Nnth lugs, to satisfy the demands of those classes than it was about their locality. On the tax question the address says: "Of all the political o lonizations in this oounty,:the Democracy alone, "unbought by fa vor and unawed by power," have had the cour age and fairness meet this subject fully and boldly. They believe, with thaillustrious states man now at the head of the General Government, that "the great American remedy for all griev ances is the ballot-box." It was through faith less incompetent public servants that the people or the cities and county became involved .a this glicoous difficulty, and it is through faithful and competent ones that they must look for redress. Tho wrong indicted was as aggregate one, againA the rights of all. The redress, to be effective, tout be aggregate too. It must be prosecuted in the name of the people—by pub lic functionaries duly elected. It must be Pressed in the imposing magnitude of a public right, demanded by the public voice, and sur rounded by all the sanction and guarantees of the Constitution and the Laws. . We agree with the committee that "it. was thro' faithless or incompetent public servants that the people of the cities and county became in- Tolved in this grievous difficulty," and there can be no doubt that "it is through faithful and competent ones that they must look for redress:" but it so happens that the "faithless and incom petent public servants" in this case were found in the democracy of this county and State. We have shown conclusively 'that it was the demo- erstiu party of the county and State which forced those railroad subscriptions upon us, and that the people have to look to such men as dodge Wilkins, Judge Grier, Wm. G. Hawkins, GOT. Shenk, Gov. Bigler and. Wm. F. Packer, an those who have invoked Ifni° "in this grievous difficulty." To look, therefore, to the same-party tit)? "the faithful and competent" men who are to redress this wrong, would be utter folly and madness. The only party in the -county WhoSe hands are clear of all participation in this "grievous" wrong, is the party which has norninatfd the Union County- Ticket flying at our mast-head. To that party and to that party alone eau the people of this county safely look for redress. The democratic party of this county ia immersed to the elan in responsibility for these railroad eubscriptions. it never raised a souse against them while they were in progress ; its leading men took . a prominent part in sector ing them; its presses halm uniformly and per ahnently advotated them from the beginning; some of the candidates on its present ticket, even, are involved in them; and it cannot point to a single fact in its past hintory to warrant any confidence in its present professions. To give such men pErtee i now, as a means of redress for wrongs ur amir own infliction, would be a piece of credulity and folly which sane men never would be guilty of - in any matter not con nected with politics. Their past course on this question is the eery bestnevidence that their present prof, are hollow and insincere. Tho Commi , :zo is extremely careful not to undertake oh interpretation of the platform adopted by the County convention. That would have wrecked the party at once, for that plat form is capable or being interpreted in any way to meet the wishes or views of any one. Mr. JOHN M. lawlesiges 11 With the undersmading that it means Repodiatiou and armed resistance to the government. if necessary: while Mr. Hawkins interprets it to mean Investigation only, and repels tic iniputatiun of Repudiation with indignatieu vol scorn. The Committee is faithiessencegh to encourage this sort of double dealing. It gives no interpretation of what it means, points out no measure., of policy whirl, the party intends pursue. and leaves the nu aginatien, instead of the judgment, to decide what the par y means to do. How will its can didates, if elected. prevent the payment of the railroad interest What will they do if the Su preme Court orders them, by mandamus, to pay it ? These arc practical quest ions, bet the Com mittee in afraid to handle them. It Bays simply, give our candidates ofSee;on their present heartle7sldeas; and should this be dune, they will turn retina and laugh derisively et those they have duped. Gentlemeu of the Committee, you are fooling yourselves with childish ideas of your smart nem The people of the county are not such amen as you talre them to be. They can see through your shallow devices, and they will prefer, we know, to laugh at you rather than be laughed at. Dm Esau G►us.—The Philadelphia Prete takes things very easy, politically, and if Packer is cleated it will not be through any of its efforts. Still it is disposed to brag, as thus: "The General Election in Pennsylvania will take place on the 18th of October, four weeks from this diy. There appears to to but little excitement. on the subject. The election of General Ifooker by a large majority is ooucodea by all parties." Easy there. There la a small party in this State, numbering something like 200,000 voters, which concedes nothing of the kind: Neither does Packer feel sure of it; 'if he did he would not be flitting about the State, trying to coun teract the affect of Wilmot's speeches, nor would be be dragging the tremendous BIGLER in his wake. lis is evidently uneasy, no matter how quietly the Pros zany take it, SITE half barrels of Syrup made from the Chimme Sugar Cane were eold In Now Orkin' recently at 46 cents per gallon. The diatribes in The Deseret News against the linked States fiovernment, ore full of the most awful threats. The declarations in behalf of Squatter Sovereignty are' as pointed and as fervent as any from the speeches of Gen. Case, Douglas, Pierce or any of the latest end newest pot-house politicians in Pennsylvania The .Mormons ask the "Democracy" toact consistent ly. If they really do believe in tlfe people of each Territory regulating their domestic affairs according to their own liking, why do they dare send their armies here because wo , see fit to es tablish society on a different basin from that of other States! What right has J. Bueitanatt, who has no wife, to find fault` with Brigham Young for having four Score and ten! Mr. Bu chanan is no judge in such matters as to what is best. In a recent semen to the saint in bus bailiwick, Young said: The time must comd when there will lei n sep aration between this kingdom nod the kingdoms of this world, even in every point of view The time roust come when this kingdom must lie free and independent from nll other kingdom:, Are you prepared to have the thread rut to-do c' Sow let me tell you one thing. I shall take it as a witness that Hod designs to cu: the thread between us and the world, when an army wider• takes to make their appearance in this Territory to chastise me or to destroy toy life from the earth. I lay it down that right is or at lent should be might with Heaven, with its servants, and with all its people on the earth. As for the rest, we will wait a little while to see: hut I shall take a hostile movement by our euemit, as an evidence that it is time for the thread to he cut. I think that we will find three hundred who will lap water, and We can whip out the Midianites. Hrother Heber said he could turn out his women and they would whip them. I ask no odds of the wicked, the best way they can fix it. This is saying in almost so many worth that the act of Government, in dispatching troops against Utah, is to be considered fair ground ; for refusing to yield obedience to I , ,deral laws. ; Brigham, moreover, asserts that, shouaGev- ernumnt send other otZcials to Utah of the same ; stamp as those who have heretofore been own missioned, "they will require more than twenty- five hundred soldiers to protect them from Mor mon fury." There is one ground of hope which Young I has not considered. What the Mormons do or say just now, Las - but little political weight. —„ Kansas is at present the loco•foeo stumping ground, - it is there that great men rise awl fall. The troops "destined" for Utah will in all prob- ' ability be used to dragoon the fro State men of Kansas jets voting for. slavery or not voting at all, while the Mormons will be permitted for the time being to "settle their own domestic matter. in their own way."
