I to between the Dwelt and Jaimnnese agents, which articles arc to form part of the treaty between Japan and Holland, concluded on the Stith of January, ls:ot. These articles amongst other things, stip ulate that the Dutch shall be allowed to exer cise their worship freely, and that they shall no longer be subjected to the impious cus tom of trampling tinder foot the image of our Savior on the (TO , . They also enact that the Dutch shall be permitted to trade in the open ports, and to sell to and to purchase from traders, and also to take theik wives and children to said ports. The articles further declare that the importation of foreign, and the exportation of Japannese money shall be allowed; that the Japannese government may levy moderate im port, transit and export duties; and lastly the Dutch at Nangaskia may maintain free relation with foreigners, both on board vessels and at Decima. The report adds that the Japanese gore rinnenthas declared itself ready to con elude treaties with all foreign governments that may wish for them. A r4OIIISINIi TIII:OLOtiIAN.-A young man, a student in the Theological Seminary in Fairfax, Virginia, shot and killed with a revolverapother young mau on Sunday lost, in• a fracas at a sonthiy School. Whim theological students go armed with revolvers, it is not surprising that all rowdies should wear blieni. Among a people so resentful, quick, and ready to shed blood for an affront as Americans usually are, arising chiefly from laxity of domestic training and discipline, and the absence of all restraint over the young, wlta are left day and night to the sole guidance of their appetites and passions and to the con taminating influences of street companionship and depraved street education, it ought to be made a punishable offence to wear deadly wea pons. Such a prohibition strictly enforced would save many a life and an infinite alumni of remorse and misery. Such a law, if we re member rightly, was enacted in Alabama several years ago ; and such a law, we understand, is found in the statute-books of Virginia, but is unheeded, even if known to the magistrates.-- Tne young Fairfax homicide tied, but was caught and committed to Alexandria prison for trial.— National Intelliyencer. Tits COMING MAN.—A young Kentuckian, who has for some years resided and been employed in St. Louis as a clerk, started recently from that city for New York: with $175 in his pocket and a trunk fuller good clothes. lle got safely to Buffalo, but there when ho was about to buy his ticket for New York and had given his trunk to the freight conductor, he placed the check for it in his wallet, which was soon afterwards stolen from his pantaloons pocket. Having no money he manfully started out of Buffalo to walk to , the metropolis, but had only gone thirty-eight miles when his patent leather shoes gave out, and, un able to keep on barefooted he sought a chance to work his passeon a freight train of the Erie Railroad. T 1 is did very well, but while T 1 tending a brake lti bat blow off and was lost, before reaching Hornellsville, at which place his coat was stolen. When last seen he had again taken to pedestrian' exercises, beading for New York, and unless his luck changes may be ex pected to arrive here soon in very good condi tion for taking a bath, as-he stands.—.W. Y. Timm - FALL OP A MZTZOIL IN WISCONSIN.—The Crra Ma, a paper published at. Appleton, Wisconsin says: " A meteor fell at noonday, on Tuesday, June 9, in a northeicts direction from this city. The sun was shining brightly at the time, and yet the meteor was as distinctly seen as the sun it self. It appeared to be full two feet in diameter, and left in its trail a white cloud. The same meteor was seen at Oconto, over fifty miles from here, and was followed by several sounds or ex plosions, resembling the firing of cannon, in rapid eaccession. We suppose these sounds were occasioned by the concussion of the meteor with the atmosphere. As near as can be esti- mated, judging by the explosions beard at °eon to, this meteor must have. fallen a full hundred miles from Appleton, posiibly still fnrther off." The meteor was also seen by many of the cit izens of Green Day and vicinity. CROPS ut hienre.—A comerpondent,. writes from Farmington, Me., that thecrops in that vi cinity never looked better. Oats, wheat and potatoes are looking finely; corn ratter back warkbut has a decidedly healthy appearance, and no one doubts a large crop. Apples bid fair for in unusual Lae*est, be &On. have not seen such fields of grass for many years; the very road sides will yield a ton to the sere." VOLUME LXX----NUMBER 269 THE ART OF VISIT'S°, says the Boston Post, is well worth a special treatise.—Whom to visit —when to visit—how long to visit—these would form the staple of n useful essay, if . any body would take the trouble to write it, and would write it cleverly. Some people visit nearly all the time. and so waste their own lives and their friends' substance; mune rarely visit at all, and so deny themselves and their neighbors one of the greasest pleasures of social existence. Some people Make their visits so short that they arc not worth the trouble they cost: others stay so long that the visit becomes a —visitation"—like a fever or a famine. As use is always essential to excellence in any art, only those who have a certain amount of practice, know how to visit well: while those who visit too muck sin in another way, and become bad visitors from impu dence and carelessness. But. we are writing We essay which we began liy simply suggesting; and will only add, in conclusion, that all rules must vary more or less with the character of the visitor.
