Tcrampaor of the Journal, the Model of Deportment, editorially and otherwise, who Is always preaching what he never praotioes, and who eessys to talk down upon every one who dares to differ with him or question hie immacu late:ten, after spending a week oogitatuig over our late article respecting him, spreads bin:wolf ever a column of yesterday's paper, intended, we soppoee, as a "dignified" reply to ns. It be trays the innate lowness of its author, his natural tendency to blackguardism, and.his aptness in the elan of bullies and cookfighters. Il is nothing but "Ile," "Dar," "blackguard," and so on ad nauseant This was the kind of a reply we had a right to expect, knowing the character of the man. Although he is evermore canting about "editorial propriety" and the "amenities of the press," and setting himself up oaths Model Editor, there Is nu one cow:mated with the press In Pittnborpb who ever tranegresses editorial propriety or violates the amenities of the press as much as he doer. He indulges In coarser language and filthier epithets than any of his cotemporaOes permit themselves to do, thue dem onstrating that his Chesterfieldian airs are but the lion's akin donned upon asinine shoulders-- The article in yesterday's Journal is a fair spe cimen of hie utter lack of the gentlemanly breed ing he is en food of laying claim to ; and the more dleplays he makes of this predominant feature of his character, the better the people here will understand him. The only object we have in alluding to him Is to show him up as he really is, robbed of his meretricious ornaments ; and he cannot serve cur purpose better than by con ttunlog jut each displays as defiled hie columns ysepterdsy. COMITY COITISSIDII —The County Commis skaters having raised the rate for county levies from four to eight mills, a oonnty convention of the people, without distinction of party, has been called to take the matter into consideration; and the call appears in our columns today. The primary meetings for the election of delegates will be held on Saturday next, the 80th lust.— The purpose of'the increased taxation is to pay the interest en the Steubenville and Allegheny Valley Railroad bonds; and the abject of the convention le tolmertain the pnblio sentiment thilleuton, and (toothy an expression of the same to the County Cammissiooers. It will be seen, therefore, that the Convention is an important one, and we trust that the people of the county will see to It that they are folly and properly renresented. We understand, Men, that it le contemplated to brie". before the convention the subject of the eels of the Main Lice, and the propriety of tat log judicial measures to prevent It. LETTER FROM UTAR TRRRITORY—More Vio lence and Bloodshed by Norrnons.—We hays dates from Salt Lake City to April Ist, with nan:tote of more violence and even bloodshed by the Hormone. It aware that a man named Par; slab, a seceding Mormon, left the wall town of Springville, to oome to the States on foot, hie wagon and horses having been stolen by Mor mons the night previous to the departure. He was accompanied by hie two eons end two men named Potter and Derper. They had not left the piece more then a few hundred yards be. bind when they were attacked by a number of men aimed and diegnised. Potter was shot dead, five belle having entered hie body; Parrish fell wounded, when one or thu assailants rushed upon him, and, is tile disabled cos, titian, cot hie throat from ear to ear, and ripped up hie abdomen. One cf Parrish's eon• ran about sigh tq ynrde, when be was struck down, his throw .cut, and his abdomen ripped up The other youog Parrish and Dtrger contrived to e.cepe. The only notice taken cf the matter by the Mormon authorities was the summoning of a coroner', jury, who sat upon the case and re turned a verdict of "asessaination by tome per eons unknown " Potter was a brother of one or the men killed in Ountisoo's massacre, and was one of the very few who knew the secret history of that aan goinary traneaction. Parrish and hi. eons were also well acquainted with the Mormon secrets, having once been to full Mormon communion Another tragedy, not very diaaiteilar, is else reported by the Iva mail from Utah. It occurred about seventy mile, from Perowao, on the Cal, (emit read, and the victim, wet, a small party of seceding ttlormone emigrating to Californie. Four were abet as they eat encamped at the foot of some reeky hills. The names of two of these men were Tobin and Peltro. They too were ' well spprieed of the aims and secrets of the Mormons, and therefore too dangerous to be al lowed to emigrate. Tam following touching and felicities's illustra tion of the power of Wen/ was given by Wendell Phillips the other day, in a public speech at New York. The eloquence of Phillip' Is surpassed by nothing but hie atrocious finatlciem: was told to-day a story so touching in re feremie to this that you mint let me tell it. It le a temperance ease, but it will illustrate the just as well. It le the story of a mother, on the green hills of Vermont, holding tiy the right hand a eon, elzteen years old, mad with love of the lea.. And, as the stood by the garden gate a moo; morning, abo ealth "Edward, they tell me—for I never caw the ocean—that the great temptation of the seaman's life is drink. Prom • ise me„before you quit your mothers hand, that you will never drink." And, said he (for he told me the story,) 1 gave hor the promiee, and I went the broad globo over—Calocate, the Medi. templet), Ban Francisco, the Cape of Good Hope, the North Pole and the Bauth—l. saw them all in forty ;sirs, and I never raw a glass tilled with sparkling liquor that my mother's form by the garden gate, on the green hillside of Vermont, did not rice before me; and today at platy, my lips are innocent of the taste of liquor. (Ap plume.) Was not that sweet evidence of the power of a single word? Yet that was not half. For, said he, yesterday there Came into my counting-room a young man of forty, and asked me, "Do you know me?" "No." "Well," said he, "I was once brought drunk into your press , once on shipboard; you were a paesenger; the captain kicked me aside; you took me to your berth and kept me there until I had dept off the intoticatlon; you then asked me if I had a moth er; I said I never new a word from her lipe; you told me of yours at the garden gate, and to day, I ant the master of cue of the fineat packets in New York, and I come to ask you to call and lice me. " How Jar that little candle throws Its beams! That mother's word, on the green hill. side of Vermont! Oh, God be thanked for the almighty power of a single word! (Applause.)"
