Tar official vote of the State shows the total
vote to be 422,998. The highest vote ever polled

A GOOD Brumurnom—A friend in Cleveland
writes us that at a previous Presidential Elec
tion, when fraud and violence were anticipated
at the polls, the merchants, - business men and
men of property and standing gave up business
for the day, suspended all active operations, and
attended at the polls in „mass. The result was
that those-who contemplated fraud and violence
were overawed. The presence of the substan
tial men of the community at the polls - operated
as it complete cheek upon- them, and the day
passed off peaceably. He suggests that a eldi
lar plan should bo adopted next Tuesday, and
we second his suggestion. If the 'men upon
whom the welfare of this city and its neighbor
hood depends will suspend' business on-Tueeday
next, and give the friends of Freedom and order
the benefit of their nountenance at the polls,
much illegal , voting may be prevented and all
danger of violence be removed. We liommend
the matter to theirconelderation..
