Sias: I take the liberty to send you a few lines by Mr. Coedit:ter, which you clay either publish or burn as It may snit your notions of things. I hare watched the straggle between slavery and liberty for the last tertitity year?, and as I live in a slave Stateand among tho poor clan of chi. sects, : , I have had ample opportunity t, observe the balefal effects of slavery upon the non elave holders of the State in which I live—especially In that portion of the State lying East of the Blue Ridge Mountains; and first let mo state that the system of elavehoiding enables a few men to get all the lande on which It is possible for man to live, thus making the conditioner the poor laboring man miserable in the extreme, for be has not only to rent when he can from the lieh Nabob bat he is obliged to take semo poor outakirt where little or nothing can be made, anti this too on terms which lierps him Mime bard pressed, or as it is termed with or, strained for the rent—the consequences is that they Uwe mtaerably poor, a great deal more, en than the slave themselves, who often cell them poor trash end toll them that they have not got bread to tot, which is very often the hot. Now Sir, bad na this id, it Is not the worst feature of the cane, for these poor fresh as they are called, are ao ignorant that they can be led to support any political measure that this Land Lord may wish. I consider the Eglish optima of Laud. Lord aud 'tenant far better than that which' Is now In opperation in the boasted land of liberty. Secondly, our system of Primary Soboole le each that toe poor man usenet educate bin children, thus giving the rich all the pleasures of litera ture 1111 well as that of wealth. In witness of this we have only to look at the census of 1850, where we find that over 7AOOO adults could neither road nor write. These facts are eta , cent to account far the political phenemioa—that of about fifty thousand men in a free country, completely calving and governing near a million I and a half et people. Now I Lek is there no remedy for tho great and crying evil; I answer yes, there It one; and one only. Send all the Negrues to Africa and let the poor men have the lends to ealtivete on reasonable terms. Bat the elavebolders ink me how, and many of them 'say, that they will glee up all their slaves, If the means can be found to transport them to Africa. Now Sir, let us see if the meant can be found, not only to transport the slaves, but rem/aerate the Master for his property. And first, let the proceeds of all tb.o public lands be set apart for thlt, purpose, and In toy judgment, no better purpose could be found for it Bat when I have mentioned this to the elaveholder, the reply has been, that the Abolitionists would not give it up tertian purpose. Now I think there is patrio tism enough among them to be the first to make the motion. Secondly, let the slave States to alter their alive laws os to enable the Mayo to buy his own liberty, which would noti:S on ie men very long to do, and to enable th and children to be ready when the men are. Jost levy a tax on all free men in the slave States, of ten dollars a year, and several bare told me that they would give fifty dollars a year till the work Fan done. As for wadi' I deoiare before God I would cheerfully pay ten dollars • year the remainder of my life, if thereby 'lipoid have a hope that the next generation would not be °tweed with evils of slavery. Editors: —I had the pleasure of attending," ma's Convention and Pole-Bab:dug at Mr. Henry Gosh ring'"'in New Sewickley township, Beaver 00., on Saturday the 11th Met., which, for number., euthenist= and display, certainly exceeded any political demonetration made in Beaver county the present canyon," The procession was formed at the ' , Knob," the highest point of land between the Allegheny mountains and Mississippi river, and proceeded across the country some four or five miles to the place of meeting. We will venture to say nett a procession was never before seen in that sec tion of country; the banner" liege, music, songs sad vociferous shoats and cheers, added to the enthusiastic reeribrusee from the people along the route, who ceemed alive with excitement and sympathy in the oases of freedom, forming a etrikieg contrast to the eolema, and spiritless convention, of the Beettaniere.l Taking into consideration, too, the feet that New Sewickley has ravoys been ono of the strongholds of loos- Neel= in Beaver county, add, to the gratifica tion with which we viewed such; powerful do mensuration In the good cattle, sad omened die aeter and defeat to the eromies of freedom, even in their strongholds. It was peculiarly gratify ing to hear the honest and sturdy German pop ulatioe, eo numerous in that township, respond. log so heartily to the "Ariake for freedom.' The procession reached Mr. Goehriog'e about 2 o'clock, headed by the Zelleneple Braes Band and the Harmony Martial Band, whore the 'vast ceowd partook of the refreshments generously provided by Mr. Goehring, after whioh all bonds doffed their coats, and in ' , twinkling the msjes tie and graceful pole with its streamers' and pen- cants floating 160 feet from the ground, stood firmly and proudly in its place, another moon meat of the great liberty-loving heart of the American people, whose every throb is for free dom and equality, for honesty and republicanism. Such cheers as rent the air after the pole was raised had never before waked the quiet solitadee of those old woods; they must have been heard for miles around, end sounded in tho ears of the slaveoenits as a wailing death-knell to their fast vanishing hopes of triumph and spoilts. -The large aesemblage was now called to order I by,Jolin Levi" Req., of Zienople, and the thither 'inectlthere were chosen amid tumultuous cheer ing:ll2" Chafivivan—Evwth BYinsa, 800. Smote; Esq., of Rochester; who spoke for half an hour to the German citizens in their native tongue; and judging from his impassioned and emphatic manner, and the markedattention of his hearers, his address was just what would be looked for from an honest freedom -loving German heart. A number of other speakers were on the ground, but on account of the lateness of the ; hour, and the distance many of the people were from theft homes, forbore addressing the meeting. Before adjourning Mr. Baker, of Harmony, announced a mass meeting to come off in that place in two weeks, and extended an, incitation to all who could make it convenient to come and partici pate. Alter some excellent mtleio from the bazar, and a number at spirited songs from the Belt Brighton and Harmony Glee Clubs, the assem blage adjourned with . nine glorious, cheers for oar glorious leader, John C. Fremont. In conclusion, Messrs. Editors, allow me to say that this demonstration in the heart of a loeofooo district is an evidence of how the battle wages in every other distriot of our county.— With the exception of the Catholics, our foreign population are with no almost to a man. Arid this Is but natural; wo ehonld not expect that those who have fled from the tyrany andoppres- Mon of their father-land, would strive to extend and strengthen the power of this Southern Aris tocracy, which has boldly avowed that ilavery abaft not be confined to race or color. P. For tbelltriburgh °lntl& Great Builllama Fizzle. Woornitum, Saturday, Sept. 27, 18W. Mama. EDlS'ons: Alley s wonderful effort on the part of the unterrllled Democracy of Wood ville and vicinity to rally the people and oast their sympathies, their great mass meeting held. in this place was, a perfect feilure. The object of the meeting 'was the, ereation of a pole,, and to beer patriotic epeeobes on 'the ' Importance of preserving, intact, tho Constitu tion and the Union. The polo, with difficulty, was raised, there scarcely being enough of Bu chanan men present for that purpose. This gigantic polo would measure at the butt about five inches in diameter, and would measurein length between sixty or seventy feet. Aster the erection of this wonderful switch they had some difficulty in adjusting its perpeudionlarity; and I In order to ascertain accurately the correctness of this matter the President of the Clnb.very sanotimonimusly drew on his spectacles, and tak ing a fine eight, exclaimed, "All right, boys; three cheers for Buchanan," and returned again to the bar to regale their senses and kindle their patriotic zeal. The meeting was then organized by calling Stephen Woods to the chair, sad Amos Holland Secretary. The meeting was first addressed by a man called Dr. McCook. The Doctor's first argument to prove that tho present Democracy should receive the cordial support of every.mao, was that there was no difference in the urgent ration of a foreign born, or native horn eitieen. He then entertained the audience with a plod logical and anatomical inceetigation of the ha-' man organism, stating, as his experience, that he had detected English, Irish and Dutch, and found all to be alike, and as proof, appealed to two doctors present to corroborate what be said; hence he concluded that every good loyal citixen should vote for Buchanan. The Br. also went to the original Greek to give the original definition of democracy, (stating at the same time that ho was well versed in the dead lore,) and as the re• cult he found that its original signification pre- Barred, and is now embodied in the creed of the democratic, party: Hence_ he concluded that Buchanan should be elected. He farther stated that the Repablican party was composed of woolly heads ' disunionist!, dark lantern boys, a peck of hell bounds, to. Then he said that I Fillmore is at far superior to Fremont as angels la to men. At the close of his speech be stig matised the Fillmore men at doge. Oh courts- I tenoy thou art a jewel! . The next speaker was Mr. Roberts. He un dertook to show that the repeal of the Missouri Compromise was jest sad right; and was called for by the progressive democracy of our day; and consequently that the entwitment of the Kansas Nebraska bill was necessary, and is not the canes, immediate or remote, of the troubles in KIWIS!. He attributed the innocent blood that has been abed in Kansas to a low set of ir responsible men bound to no party who would indiscriminately attack any man, whether from the North or South, and demand his money, and then require him to leave in twenty-four hours or we will hang you. This was hie proof. It may be satisfactory to ' some, bat to as It appears very mach like en anecdote whin it Bald to bare occurred in Bal timore between two woolly heads while engaged , in conversation about Gen. The Fremontere do all their talking at home and no one dares to deny or contradict their assertion, that the People of Blair hare too much good sense to vote against themselvei, by casting a ballot for Btohanan or Fillmore. Now, Mr. Editor, let me state a few fact. in regard to politics here. When Fillmore was nominated, he received the rapport of a large number of oar citizens, but now things are changed. This is expected of her because of her past coarse; and because of the fact, that she has not been caned, particularly in some parts of the East, with that •hot-bed of abominations" the Free School system. I mean to say that she has not berm corrupted to the eamo extent by that ix:fiance that some of the New England Staten have been. As for the New England States, and the Abo lition States, we dont care anything about their vote ; we can got along without it. Tho people of thou States, with their little learning, have got to think that they are a little toe sharp—that they are not guitNale, which proves "that a little learning is a dangerous thing."
